‘SCENE’ IN SCOTLAND AGAIN 4

on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk

From time to time, I publish blog a day for a limited period.

In the past it has been at a holiday time or to report on the Coach and Bus show at the NEC.

So for no other reason that it is Easter and maybe we all need a bit of cheering up, I have published 3 blogs already and this is the last of the current crop being published on Easter Monday.

I had been wondering what to publish when out of the blue came images from friends Peter Rose and Stuart Montgomery.

It is their work then that will be on show over the next few days and of course with their co-operation and permission.

Both of these gentlemen are supporters of the ‘Buses/Trains in the environment’ concept so out of respect for their views, the images have not been cropped by myself.

Peter’s final contribution to this exercise is a selection of ‘Heritage’  locomotive images taken in the 1980’s.

I would like to thank everyone who continues to support my ‘blog’ by looking in.

In these difficult times that we all live in it gives me some pleasure in producing the blog and literally keeps me off the streets.

Pictured on the ‘West Highland’ line on Glenfinnan Viaduct with the 06-50 Mallaig to Fort William working.

The viaduct originally being famous because it was built using concrete by ‘Concrete Bob’, Sir Robert McAlpine.

It gained further fame when it appeared in four of the ‘Harry Potter’ films in recent years.

Pictured alongside 47 707 ‘Holyrood’ at Glasgow Queen St. railway station on 27/05/1987.

At the time ‘Scotrail’ were running these class 47/7’s in push/pull mode between Glasgow and Edinburgh.

I travelled behind them (or in front of) on occasion when I briefly lived in Scotland.

I always felt uncomfortable in the ‘push’ mode knowing that if the coaches derailed there was a 100 ton locomotive behind me that would take some stopping.

As a consequence I always travelled in the coach furthest away from the loco!!
