‘Scene’ at the Nottingham Transport Heritage Centre. More Visiting Double Deckers on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

Located at Ruddington, which lies five miles to the South of Nottingham.

It is also home to the ‘Great Central Railway-Nottingham’.

A large site which houses an extensive collection of vintage buses as well as standard gauge and miniature railway vehicles and artefacts.

Originally a station on the ‘Great Central Railway’  extension line that linked Sheffield with London via Nottingham and Leicester.

When you look at the beautiful Coventry and Birmngham liveries shown in this and the next image you wonder why they had to be lost when the companies became part of ‘West Midlands PTE’.

Albion Lowlander LR3 / Northern Counties

on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk

New in 1964.

A very rare type.

‘East Midland Motor Services’ had some Alexander bodied Lowlanders which had a more curvaceous body that I used to ride on regularly.

The fibreglass front carrying the LEYLAND legend was developed for that companies PD3 model.

The Albion badge is mounted above the ‘SOUTH NOTTS’ name plate.

‘SOUTH NOTTS’ were eventually taken over by ‘Nottingham City Transport’ with whom they operated as a separate, stand alone unit until as recently as 2021.

‘Scene’ with ‘East Yorkshire Motor Services’ (EYMS). EYC registrations. on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

At the time of publication of this blog, it has just been announced that ‘EYMS’ is to become a part of the ‘Go-Ahead’ group.

I am sorry to see them go as an independent operator but I am sure from having observed all the major groups for many years that this is a good decision.

I wish all at ‘East Yorkshire’ well for the future.

I have been a follower of ‘East Yorkshire Motor Services’ for many years and I have always believed that the ‘EYC’ registrations indicated vehicles working for the ‘East Yorkshire Coaches’ unit.

Normally painted in cream and light blue there is at least one bus that does not quite fit in !!! (see below).

Most of these images were taken at ‘EYMS’ depot on Anlaby Road in Hull on a PSV Circle organised visit.

This is the bus mentioned earlier that doesn’t seem to fit however it is fitted with coach seats and other ‘luxury’ fitments so maybe it does.

A pity it’s not in the coaching livery though, it would look magnificent !
