‘Scene’ at the ‘Great Central Railway’, Leicestershire 2 on Dennis Basford’srailsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

It is two years since friend Peter Rose and I last visited the GCR.

A good selection of trains both steam and diesel were running.

However, our main purpose, now as then, was to see and photograph the entrants in the bus rally held at Quorn & Woodhouse station.

A fine day initially that turned to rain later did not deter us from having an interesting and enjoyable day.

The station has ample close by car parking which at £3 per car was cheap.

The buses gathered in the station yard from where a steady stream of excursions to Loughborough, Leicester and other places of interest ran at no extra cost.

The Loughborough excursion allowing for visits to both the GCR’s station and Network Rail’s mainline station.

As we have done before, we have combined all the images we gathered on the day.

The credits being joint D.Basford/P.M.Rose.

This image taken through a window shows the style of coach seating (33 of them) fitted.

The casting supporting the seat has the letter W worked into it no doubt to underline who the coach builder was.

‘Scene’ at ‘First South Yorkshires’ (FSY) event in Sheffield on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

The 22nd. of August 2021 saw the 60th. anniversary of the opening of Olive Grove Garage in Sheffield.

To celebrate ‘FSY’ put on a ‘Family Fun Day’.

I have already covered some of the exhibits from ‘FSY’ in blogs posted 11/09/2021 and 4/11/2021.

There were a fair number of entrants from the West riding of Yorkshire starting with.

Like ‘FSY’, ‘FWY’ like to remember the liveries of their constituent companies.

I can not understand why anyone who has gone to the trouble to prepare a vehicle for display to the bus world would then pile assorted objects in front of it so spoiling everyone’s view.

‘Scene’ in Somerset once more on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

It is very unusual to find genuine ‘Heritage’ vehicles working on a timetabled stage carriage service.

The service is No. 300 and it works from Minehead to Lynmouth.

I think I am correct in saying that it is a summertime only service so if you want to have a ride, time your visit accordingly.

During my visit in addition to the bus seen here I also saw a former ‘London Transport’ RF single decker on the same service which unfortunately dodged my camera.

‘Quantock Heritage’ who are the owners of both buses (and others) are to be commended for using these veterans in this way. A brave decision.
