‘Scene’ on a PSV Circle Organised Visit. At the Various Premises of R.S. Tyrer Ltd., Farnworth, Bolton 7 on Dennis Basford’srailsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

The PSV Circle (of which I have been a member for some years) aims to hold an Annual General Meeting in a different location in the UK every year.

Usually held at a weekend, they also include visits to operators and other bus related venues for the attending members to visit and enjoy.

This year, the location being in the North West of England centred on the Holiday Inn Express, Preston.

Friend Peter Rose joined me for what turned out to be a sometimes wet, but very enjoyable weekend.

As we have done before, we have combined all the images we have gathered.

The credits being joint D.Basford/P.M.Rose.

‘Tyrers’ has a history stretching back to 1972 when Bob Tyrer at the age of 58 started his own business with a single, Leyland engined, Plaxton bodied Bedford coach.

Today, the company operates over 100 vehicles out of three separate bases in the area.

‘Tyrers’ provided the transport for our second morning until lunchtime, which was taken in Manchester.

It arrived at ‘Tyrers’ in 2018 and as it still retains its yellow Bournemouth livery, I suspect that it may have been used on school bus duties.

A clever ploy that, buying yellow buses rather than having the cost of re-painting them.

‘Scene’ at Mansfield Woodhouse, Notts on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

The PSV Circle (of which I have been a member for some years) aims to hold an Annual General Meeting in a different location in the UK, every year. (Covid permitting).

Usually held at a weekend, they also include visits to operators and other bus related venues for the attending members to visit and enjoy.

This year, the location was in my part of the world, the East Midlands.

The second visit of the second day was to ‘REDFERN TRAVEL’ who work out of a large modern depot at Mansfield Woodhouse, Notts.

Redfern Travel’s site at Mansfield Woodhouse is extensive.

There are however other premises, that I don’t know the ownership of in the immediate area that service the bus sector.

So, ‘at Mansfield Woodhouse’ seems a reasonable compromise.

Leyland National

on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk

I last saw this bus at Transpire’s Peak Park Preserved Bus Gathering 2016 at Rowsley, Derbyshire.

At the time I wrote,

“New to ‘Alder Valley’ as No. 127 in 1972.

It replaced a previous Leyland National in the fleet (XRB 419L) which also carried 419 as its fleet number.

If memory serves me correctly, the earlier bus fell out of favour because it had 2 doors and the norm had become single doors”.

I must admit, It brought a smile to my face to see that this ‘old timer’ was still around at the age of 50.

‘Scene’ in Derby yesterday (09/07/2021) on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

I was on my way home from a photographic trip to Burton on Trent and found myself with 25 minutes to kill in Derby where I found this parked up.
