‘Scene’ at the Nottingham Transport Heritage Centre ‘Barton Transport’ Coaches on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

Located at Ruddington, which lies five miles to the South of Nottingham.

It is also home to the ‘Great Central Railway-Nottingham’.

A large site which houses an extensive collection of vintage buses as well as standard gauge and miniature railway vehicles and artefacts.

Originally a station on the ‘Great Central Railway’  extension line that linked Sheffield with London via Nottingham and Leicester.

The last vehicle purchased by ‘Barton’ prior to the take over by ‘Trent’.

Dating from 1988 and now over 30 years old, the body styling would not look out of place in any modern fleet.

‘Scene’ at Showbus 2017. ‘Plaxton’ 2 on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

The history of the British bus industry is littered with companies that like shooting stars shone for a while and then fell to Earth.

Fortunately ‘Plaxton’ is not one of them.

Now part of the ‘Alexander Dennis Ltd.’ group and turning out current standards like the E20D / Enviro 200MMC alongside its own branded coach production.

There is however a long history of ‘Plaxton’ production a little of which is shown here.

There will be a small number of blogs about ‘Plaxton’ bodied vehicles seen at ‘Showbus 2017’.

For ‘Plaxton’ 1 see blog dated 26/06/2018.

‘Scene’ at ‘Showbus 2016’, ‘Barton Transport’ on ‘Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogsot.co.uk’

One of the main features of this years ‘Showbus’ was to feature ‘Barton Transport’ who this year are celebrating the 150th aniiversary of the birth of the comany’s founder Mr. T. H. Barton.

I captured what images I was able too as the cavalcade passed through the site hoping to have a chance to catch up with them later.

Circumstances on the day prevented me from doing so.

I therefore present the 11 images I did get and apologise for the other 4 which unfortunately got away.

At the time of this bus being introduced, many of the travelling public were not used to the concept of dual doored buses so it was found necessary to paint IN and OUT on the bodywork.

‘Scene’ at ‘Transpire’s Peak Park Preserved Bus Gathering 2016 part 2 on ‘Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

I do not attend many bus rallies because I find more than enough in the current scene to keep me busy.

However, once a year ‘Transpire’ the Chesterfield based enthusiasts group holds its own event which for the last few years has been held at the ‘Peak Rail’ site at Rowsley in Derbyshire.

I have been a member for many years and have rarely missed so as usual, this year I went along and of course the camera went with me.

Part 2 ‘Trent Connection’ (For part 1 see blog posted 23 June 2016)

‘trentbarton’, (part of the ‘Wellglade’ group) as it is these days is the modern day successor to a variety of companies that have become what is ‘trentbarton which has a history dating back over 100 years.

it was despatched to Willowbrook at Loughborough who replaced the original body with this one built in 1977.

KCG 627L ‘Trent Motor Traction’ No. 419 Leyland National on ‘Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

New to ‘Alder Valley’ in 1972. it replaced a previous Leyland National in the fleet (XRB 419L) which also carried 419 as its fleet number.

If memory serves me correctly, the earlier bus fell out of favour because it had 2 doors and the norm had become single doors.

The fleet of The ‘Midland General Omnibus Company’ (MGOC) came into the ‘Trent’ fleet in 1972 following the formation of the ‘National Bus Company’ (NBC) in 1969.

In the early days of the ‘NBC’, the ‘MGOC’ were allowed to keep its blue livery. A different ‘NBC’ shade of blue was eventually introduced.

Eventually this was phased out and ‘NBC’s poppy red became the norm. A Shame really.

At the time of the formation of the ‘NBC’, the ‘North Western Road Car Company’ (NWRCC) was broken up and the Matlock and Buxton depots became part of the Trent operation.

This particular bus is shown as being representative of the ‘NWRCC’ at the time although it never served in the ‘Trent’ fleet.

LDB 796

On the 2nd. of July 1989 ‘Trent’ took over ‘Barton Buses’.

‘Barton Transport’ was a independent private company with a history as long as ‘Trent’s.

At one time famous for the variety of vehicles in the fleet it had become highly standardised on Leyland Leopard’s with a smattering of DAF and Bedford chassis. Largely bodied by Plaxton.

After seeing service with other operators before it passed to ‘Redfern Travel’ of Mansfield where its current registration was acquired.

Currently preserved in the livery of another ‘Chesterfield Transport ‘ subsidiary ‘White’s of Calver’ ( Calver Sough being a village in the ‘Peak District’) by its current owners ‘Chesterfield 123 Preservation Group’.
