‘Scene’ on the rails in Todmorden on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

Friend Peter Rose supplied the images for this blog for which I thank him.

Todmorden is a market town in the Upper Calder valley in West Yorkshire.

The railway came to the town in 1841 when the ‘Manchester and Leeds Railway’ (M&LR) started services.

Evolving through various mergers to become part of the ‘London Midland & Scottish Railway’ in 1923 and ‘British Railways’ in 1948.

We come up to date with the modern station being part of the railway network being managed by ‘Northern Rail’.

Friend Peter M. Rose’s images have appeared before on my blog.

His images from a visit to the Lathalmond Bus Museum in Scotland appeared on 02/04/2018.

This time he has pointed his camera in the direction of the trains of the Southwest and of course, I have his permission to publish these images.

‘Scene’ at Leeds Railway Station on ‘Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

‘Northern Rail’, part of the ‘ARRIVA’ group are the most prominent operator in and out of Leeds with services radiating to all points of the compass.

‘TransPennine Express’, part of ‘First’ group operate across the North of England and into Scotland serving both Glasgow and Edinburgh.

The link South and to London is currently in the hands of ‘Virgin East Coast’.

Since this blog was first written, ‘Virgin East Coast’ has been stripped of the East Coast franchise which is now being run in a form of Nationalization by ‘London North Eastern Railway’.

It lies at the Southern end of a long viaduct which carries the line across the River Mersey.

‘Scene’ in the Southwest. ‘Trains at Dawlish’ on ‘Dennis Basfords railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

I don’t think that there are many ‘Camping Coaches’ still at large in the UK. This typically pre and early post-war form of holiday has largely been replaced by the Costa’s and the Canaries amongst others.

‘Dawlish Warren’ is home to eight such, seven former British Railways Mk.1’s and one from the LMS.

Their proximity to the main line is shown in this image.

These are still available for hire with the new owner stating that they are to be refurbished for the 2018 season.

I remember this station in steam days when it was smokey and gloomy and the sun did not shine in like it did on this visit.
