‘Scene’ on a PSV Circle Organised Visit At the Premises of ‘Redline Travel’, Penwortham, Preston on Dennis Basford’srailsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

The PSV Circle (of which I have been a member for some years) aims to hold an Annual General Meeting in a different location in the UK every year.

Usually held at a weekend, they also include visits to operators and other bus related venues for the attending members to visit and enjoy.

This year, the location being in the North West of England centred on the Holiday Inn Express, Preston.

Friend Peter Rose joined me for what turned out to be a sometimes wet, but very enjoyable weekend.

As we have done before, we have combined all the images we have gathered.

The credits being joint D.Basford/P.M.Rose.

This small selection were on site at ‘Redlines’ premises  but belong to an independent but seemingly associated company.

Usually held at a weekend, they also include visits to operators and other bus related venues for the attending members to visit and enjoy.

This year, the location was in my part of the world, the East Midlands.

This, our third visit of the third day was to the Langley Mill depot of ‘trentbarton’.

Located very close to the Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire border just down the hill from Heanor.

It is my ‘local’ depot that I have visited a number of times previously.

Lunch was then taken in Derby, which because it was Sunday was very quiet.

‘Scene’ at Mansfield Woodhouse, Notts on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

The PSV Circle (of which I have been a member for some years) aims to hold an Annual General Meeting in a different location in the UK, every year. (Covid permitting).

Usually held at a weekend, they also include visits to operators and other bus related venues for the attending members to visit and enjoy.

This year, the location was in my part of the world, the East Midlands.

The second visit of the second day was to ‘REDFERN TRAVEL’ who work out of a large modern depot at Mansfield Woodhouse, Notts.

Redfern Travel’s site at Mansfield Woodhouse is extensive.

There are however other premises, that I don’t know the ownership of in the immediate area that service the bus sector.

So, ‘at Mansfield Woodhouse’ seems a reasonable compromise.

I last saw this bus at Transpire’s Peak Park Preserved Bus Gathering 2016 at Rowsley, Derbyshire.

At the time I wrote,

“New to ‘Alder Valley’ as No. 127 in 1972.

It replaced a previous Leyland National in the fleet (XRB 419L) which also carried 419 as its fleet number.

If memory serves me correctly, the earlier bus fell out of favour because it had 2 doors and the norm had become single doors”.

I must admit, It brought a smile to my face to see that this ‘old timer’ was still around at the age of 50.

‘Scene’ at the age of 100. ‘Hulleys of Baslow’ 15 on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

As this series of ‘Hulleys of Baslow’ blogs comes towards the end of its run (but not quite yet).

It is interesting to look back over the past 12 months.

Fleet additions that I know of have seen a further Optare Tempo, Optare Solo’s, another Optare Versa.

Two double deckers with both Wright and Alexander Dennis bodies and the first Wright Streetlite.

MK63 XAU has also gained a ‘Heritage’ livery.

I have seen none of them as yet mainly due to Covid restrictions.

I have not taken any images of ‘Hulleys of Baslow’ buses since July 2020.

There is a lot of catching up to do.

So, keep watching this space!!

For ‘Hulleys of Baslow’ /1, see blog posted 01/04/2021. For part 2 see blog posted 05/04/2021.

This series will now run almost daily until I run out of images to post.

April 2021 sees the one hundredth anniversary of the founding of what has become ‘Hulleys of Baslow’, the well known Derbyshire based independent bus operator.

Founded by Henry Hulley, the ownership of the company has changed hands more than once but the name of its founder has survived all the changes.

I have known the company for over 60 years and during that time the buses initially painted (in my time at least) in shades of red and red and grey have been a fixture in Rutland Square in Bakewell.

These days, the livery has changed to cream and dark blue.

A combination that ‘Hulleys’ inherited from ‘South Notts’ when buses were bought from that fleet and the livery adopted.

Although Hulleys ‘main line’ is probably its service number 170 from Bakewell to Chesterfield via Baslow.

The company operates widely across North Derbyshire, to Sheffield and in the past year to Manchester.

AS PROMISED, THE FIFTH ONE OF ‘A BLOG A DAY’ GOING THROUGH TO NEW YEARS DAY.

Lovely warm, sunny weather, masses of buses. What more could you want?

Since I was last in Bournemouth, ‘Yellow Buses’ which grew out of ‘Bournemouth Corporation Transport’ and is now part of the French ‘RATP GROUP’ have adopted a form of coloured route identification which is superimposed on the all over yellow livery.

The effect is to make the buses even brighter than they were before.

Route 18 in Nottingham which runs from the City to Stapleford via Beeston is now being run by ‘CT4N’.

It  was until September 2018 run by ‘trentbarton’ (tb).

‘tb’ gave up the route then citing abstraction of passengers by Nottingham’s tram network which made it uneconomic to operate.

CT4N’ stepped in on October 1st. 2018 to save the route using a former ‘tb’ vehicle. One of six buses to have joined ‘CT4N’ from that source.
