For ‘Scene’ at Manchester International Airport (MAN) once more part 1, see blog posted on 09/06/2020.

This batch of images were taken airside from the Departure Lounge whilst we waiting for a  flight to Munich for a short holiday.

Readers seeking further details on particular aircraft are recommended to Google the aircraft type and the c/n. ie.

The ‘SAS’ on the fin relates back to the days when the full name of the airline was ‘Scandinavian Airlines System’.

’‘Scene’ at the ‘Scottish Vintage Bus Museum’ at Lathalmond. A Rhapsody in Blue (and cream) 1 on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

Last year, friend Peter Rose and I made the trip over the border to visit the ‘Scottish Vintage Bus Museum’ which is at Lathalmond in Fife.

Located close to the historic town of Dunfermline it is housed in a very large complex that at one time was home to a Royal Navy storage depot.

There are many buildings that survive from that time some of which are used to house the museums collections.

The surviving roadways are put to good use on open days by allowing  a comprehensive bus service to enable visitors to get around the site.

My very first visit to Scotland was in 1965 where I stayed in Falkirk. At that time the company of ‘Walter Alexander and Sons Ltd’ were major players on the bus scene.

I was much impressed by the ‘Midland’ branch of the organisation who’s buses were painted in a lovely shade of blue with a cream contrast.

Time moved on and ‘Alexander Midland’ became ‘Midland Scottish’ but the colours stayed the same.

It impressed me then and it still does.

‘Scene’ in Stamford, Other operators 2 on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

Stamford in Lincolnshire is a beautiful town. The golden stone of many of its elegant buildings gives it an almost Cotswold-ish feel.

The bus station is well situated in the town centre being almost circular which gives the photographer a variety of vantage points depending on where the sun is.

‘Scene’ in Edinburgh 2. ‘Stagecoach’ on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

Because we are so familiar with them in England It is easy to think of ‘Stagecoach’ as being yet another English bus company.

However the company’s roots are very much Scottish being founded by brother and sister Brian Souter (now Sir Brian) and Ann Gloag and to this day the company’s headquarters are in Perth.

All the images in this blog were taken adjacent to Edinburgh Bus Station.

‘Scene’ at Manchester International Airport (MAN) once more 1 on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

Since publishing this blog, it has been pointed out to me by correspondent ’SpeedbirdA350’ that my use of the initials of Manchester International Airport i.e. MIA is confusing in that MIA is the recognised identification for Miami International Airport whereas the correct identification for Manchester is MAN or EGCC.

I have amended the blog with the correct designation for the airport and thank ’SpeedbirdA350’  for taking the time and trouble to get in touch. Dennis,

I have already posted blogs with images at ‘MAN’ this year. They were all taken from the spectators area.

This batch of images were taken airside from the Departure Lounge whilst we waiting for a  flight to Munich for a short holiday.

Readers seeking further details on particular aircraft are recommended to Google the aircraft type and the c/n. ie. Airbus A220/Bombardier CS220  c/n 50011.

Regular viewers of my blog might have spotted that after some years, I have changed the images that form the ‘banner’ at the top.

This particular image now represents the ’Runways’ element to the blog.

‘Scene’ outside Nottingham’s Railway Station (NRS) 1 on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

The original ‘NRS’ was opened in 1839 by the ‘Midland Counties Railway’.

Substantially rebuilt in 1904 by the now ‘Midland Railway’ using brick, terracotta and faience (a form of glazed terracotta) instead of stone.

Further re-worked in 2013 when the trackwork was remodelled resulting in the beautiful building seen today.

All of the images in this blog show part of the station exterior in the background.
