‘Scene’ in North London, Finsbury Park Interchange again on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

Friend Peter Rose has once more been exploring the delights that the capital has to offer.

This time he and his trusty camera have brought us the transport highlights of the area surrounding what was Finsbury Park railway station and has now been elevated to the level of an Interchange.

All the images reproduced here do so with Peter’s permission and my thanks.

The station dates back to the 1850s when the ‘Great Northern Railway’s line from Kings Cross arrived at what was then known as Seven Sisters Road  (Holloway) station.

Becoming Finsbury Park station in July 1861

This was gradually extended North to York by the GNR and eventually to  Edinburgh by the ‘North Eastern’ and ‘North British Railways’ so creating what is now known as The East Coast Main Line.

Underground trains arrived in the form of the ‘Great Northern & City Railway’ in 1904.

Trams and buses have been around since the early days when I suspect that they would have been powered by horses.

Today, such is the volume of traffic that two bus stations are required to service their needs.

‘Scene’ in London. A few New Routemaster’s on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

REGULAR READERS/VIEWERS WILL BE AWARE THAT FROM TIME TO TIME, I PUBLISH BLOGS ON A DAILY BASIS USUALLY TO TIE IN WITH A HOLIDAY PERIOD.

SO FOR THE AUGUST BANK HOLIDAY, THE 23rd, 24th, 25th AND 26th. IT WILL BE A BLOG A DAY!

I am not really a London fan, either the City or its buses but you cannot ignore what’s there before you.

There has been too much politicking around London’s buses and the ‘LT’ is no different. Created at the behest of one Mayor and then dumped by another.

Still, I don’t expect them to fade away. If they are preserved at anything like the rate the ‘RT’ and the ‘RM’ have been we could eventually see 50 or 60 or so preserved out of the 1000 or so built.

This selection were all taken around Trafalgar Square just after a torrential downpour.

‘Scene’ in Euston Square

I recently spent some time in Euston Square taking a look at the bus operations that come and go in the small bus station adjacent to the railway station.

I was surprised at the number of older buses in service with 52 plate vehicles still in use. I would have expected by now that buses of that age would have been long gone.

Although ‘Transport for London’ specify that London buses should be primarily red, it is interesting how the operators get their bit of individuality into the liveries used. Black or blue skirts for instance.
