‘Scene’ at Showbus 2022 A Delectation of Double Deckers 2 on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

I have attended a number of SHOWBUS events over the years but this was the first time I had attended one at the Hertfordshire County Showgound.

The 50th. show and, if we are to believe what we read, the last.

It would be a great pity if the reputation the SHOWBUS name has built up over the years were to be lost but we shall have to wait and see.

‘Scene’, ‘Bits and Pieces’ on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

Most of my blogs have some sort of theme or purpose.

There are however times when I take a photograph of something that does not fit into any category.

It is generally something that just happened to turn up at the time.

Collectively they are just ‘Bits and Pieces’. Individually they can be interesting.

See if there is anything that you like out of these.

‘Scene’, Down Memory Lane with ‘ARRIVA Midlands’ (AM) 1 on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

An occasional series which came about when I was looking through my collection of images for something else and this selection turned up.

In the early days due to the number of operators who formed the group, the fleet was a mixture of types amalgamated by the livery.

It was plain, simple and some said boring.

I liked it so here are some examples of how it looked.

‘Scene’ in Derby once more on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

It has been a while since I was in Derby to look at the transport scene so today being bright, sunny and cold seemed ideal for a little wander with the camera.

‘trentbarton’ (tb) continue to introduce new Alexander Dennis Ltd. (ADL) E20D / ‘ADL’ Enviro 200MMC’s.

The latest route to receive them being the i4 one of a number of routes linking Derby with Nottingham.

These new buses carry ‘Barton Buses Ltd.’ legal titling which I believe is usual for buses based at (tb)s Nottingham depot. A nice link to the companies past.

The previous buses on the route were Optare Tempo SR’s which seem to have had a troubled time with ‘tb’ and have been replaced after only six years.

Only last year Optare provided a MetroCity to cover for the Tempo SR’s going back to Optare for rectification work. See blog dated 14/04/2017.

A rather ‘snatched’ image included because of its interest.

‘Scene’ in Bournemouth, ‘Wilts & Dorset’ (WD)

My wife (Barbara) and I have been holidaying in Bournemouth for over 35 years. During that time I have watched with much interest the comings and goings in the bus fleets locally.

For most of that time, competition for ‘Bournemouth Corporation Transport’ has come from ‘Wilts & Dorset’ (WD).

With a history going back to 1915 ‘WD’ was at one time part of the ‘National Bus Company’ and these days is part of ‘Go South Coast’ which is a subsidiary of the ‘Go Ahead’ group.

In 2012 ‘WD’ adopted ‘More’ branding for its Bournemouth and Poole area operations whilst adopting ‘Salisbury Reds’ for its Salisbury area services.

Bournemouth and Salisbury are linked hourly by service X3.

‘W&D’s service 50 the ‘Purbeck Breezer’ operates between Bournemouth and Swanage via the Sandbanks chain ferry and is one of the ‘Must Do’ journeys in the UK.

To be held up on a double deck bus by a cross channel ferry as it sails out of Poole harbour is an experience not to be missed !

Operated with a fleet of Scania 230UD’s with Optare Visionaire bodies which can work in open or closed top layout depending on the weather.

The Swanage terminus and ‘W&D’s depot is located in the old railway yard and is at the side of the preserved ‘Swanage Railway’ of today.

The bread and butter routes are the m1 and m2 which operate from Poole to Bournemouth and then on to the Castlepoint shopping complex (m1) and Southborne (m2).

Operating with buses up to every few minutes across the day and night.

The majority of the buses in use are Volvo B7RLE’s wit Wright Eclipse Urban 2 bodies but there are also Scania CN230UB’s OmnCity’s in regular service.
