‘Scene’ at Transpire’s Peak Park Bus Gathering 2022 /3 on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

For some years now, this event has been held at the ‘Peak Rail’ site at Rowsley in Derbyshire.

There was plenty of room for the 35 or so buses the event attracted together with the added bonus of the trains provided by ‘Peak Rail’.

This year being steam only.

A return to the traditional June date was welcome because last year the event was held in August due to the problems caused by the Covid 19 pandemic.

CRU 103C Bournemouth Transport No. 103.

One of three, CRU 101C No. 101 and CRU 102C No. 102 being the other two.

They were fitted with what were called ‘Dual Purpose’ seating.

Not quite up to full coach standard but better than the usual bus seats.

Usually in a bus body shell.

They were used as buses most of the time but could be drafted in to support the coach fleet when required.

The pattern of taking holidays in the 1960’s was different to today.

These days, coach holidays have the coach providing transport to and from the resort and staying in the resort to provide excursions during the holiday.

In the 60’s, people booked their own accomodation in a resort and then booked with a coach or bus company to provide the transport to the resort.

Saturday was ‘changeover day’ when resort coach parks would be very busy.

I have seen the coach parks in Skegness, Llandudno and other places rammed with coaches and often buses delivering and collecting passengers.

Almost anything that could turn a wheel was sometimes used.

A way of working that has gone but they were very interesting times for enthusiasts.

Being local to where I live, this coach is well known to me.

The quality of the paintwork is superb.

So much so that ‘Coopers’ opted to keep it as it was with just the addition of their own titles.

Well known to me when it was new to ‘Trent Motor Traction’ as No. 109.

It was sold to ‘Lancaster City Transport’ before joining

‘Whites of Calver’, (a subsidiary of ‘Chesterfield Transport’).

‘Chesterfield Transport’ became part of the ‘Stagecoach’ group and the bus passed to their ‘Bluebird Buses’ subsidiary in Scotland.

Again, the quality of the paintwork is superb.

‘Scene’ at ‘Transpire’s Peak Park Preserved Bus Gathering 2016 Part 4 on Dennis Basford’s ‘railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

Before I start, may I leave a message for Mr. Stewart Morgan.

You contacted me in February with some questions re my blog.

I have tried to contact you several times on the link on your Email with no success.

If you could provide me with another contact address, I would be happy to try again.

Thank you,

Dennis

I do not attend many bus rallies because I find more than enough in the current scene to keep me busy.

However once a year ‘Transpire’ the Chesterfield based enthusiasts group holds its own event which for the last few years has been held at the ‘Peak Rail’ site at Rowsley in Derbyshire.

I have been a member for many years and have rarely missed so as usual, I went along and of course the camera went with me.

For parts 1, 2, and 3 see blogs dated 23rd. June 2016, 11th. September 2016 and 11th. April 2017.

The ‘Stagecoach’ operation in Chesterfield although operated from Stonegravels depot in Chesterfield is part of the larger ‘Stagecoach Yorkshire’ (SY) group and as such all the Chesterfield based buses carry the ‘SY’ legal address.

The ‘Gold X17’ branding is carried by buses working from Matlock via Chesterfield to Sheffield. A highly scenic route.

Part 2 ‘Trent Connection’ (For part 1 see blog posted 23 June 2016)

‘trentbarton’, (part of the ‘Wellglade’ group) as it is these days is the modern day successor to a variety of companies that have become what is ‘trentbarton which has a history dating back over 100 years.

it was despatched to Willowbrook at Loughborough who replaced the original body with this one built in 1977.

New to ‘Alder Valley’ in 1972. it replaced a previous Leyland National in the fleet (XRB 419L) which also carried 419 as its fleet number.

If memory serves me correctly, the earlier bus fell out of favour because it had 2 doors and the norm had become single doors.

The fleet of The ‘Midland General Omnibus Company’ (MGOC) came into the ‘Trent’ fleet in 1972 following the formation of the ‘National Bus Company’ (NBC) in 1969.

In the early days of the ‘NBC’, the ‘MGOC’ were allowed to keep its blue livery. A different ‘NBC’ shade of blue was eventually introduced.

Eventually this was phased out and ‘NBC’s poppy red became the norm. A Shame really.

At the time of the formation of the ‘NBC’, the ‘North Western Road Car Company’ (NWRCC) was broken up and the Matlock and Buxton depots became part of the Trent operation.

This particular bus is shown as being representative of the ‘NWRCC’ at the time although it never served in the ‘Trent’ fleet.

On the 2nd. of July 1989 ‘Trent’ took over ‘Barton Buses’.

‘Barton Transport’ was a independent private company with a history as long as ‘Trent’s.

At one time famous for the variety of vehicles in the fleet it had become highly standardised on Leyland Leopard’s with a smattering of DAF and Bedford chassis. Largely bodied by Plaxton.

After seeing service with other operators before it passed to ‘Redfern Travel’ of Mansfield where its current registration was acquired.
