‘Scene’ By Peter Rose in Mansfield on Dennis Basford’srailsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

Friend Peter, a Mansfield lad by birth, has forwarded a selection of images which, with his consent, I am pleased to be able to share with you.

Apart from his excellent portrait images, he has a known liking for ‘images In the environment’.

Or, as I call it, buses with a twist.

‘Scene’ on a PSV Circle Organised Visit. ‘Stagecoach Manchester’ on Dennis Basford’srailsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

The PSV Circle (of which I have been a member for some years) aims to hold an Annual General Meeting in a different location in the UK every year.

Usually held at a weekend, they also include visits to operators and other bus related venues for the attending members to visit and enjoy.

This year, the location being in the North West of England centred on the Holiday Inn Express, Preston.

Friend Peter Rose joined me for what turned out to be a sometimes wet, but very enjoyable weekend.

As we have done before, we have combined all the images we have gathered.

The credits being joint D.Basford/P.M.Rose.

The last two visits of the weekend were to ‘Stagecoach Manchester’ depots at Hyde Road and Sharston.

Hyde Road produced the ‘King Charles III’ bus featured in my first blog posted on 24/04/2023 and this one featuring training buses

By the time we got to Sharston the rain had set in again and although I had a quick walk round, I took no photographs.

The return to our hotel followed.

After farewells to our other group members, it was off home, again in the rain.

Thanks go to the ‘PSV Circle’ as a group for organising the weekend and to Chris Elkins and Paul Whiteside as individuals for their efforts to keep the group in some sort of order.

As another member commented to me, “It must be like herding cats”.

To you, the viewer/reader:

If you have been with this series from the start, you have read/viewed over 30 blogs and viewed over 180 images.

Strangely enough, almost the same numbers as last year

Here’s to the next time, hopefully!

Thank you for your interest.

‘Scene’ in Birmingham ‘national express West Midlands 3’ on Dennis Basford’srailsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

A day out train and tram riding in the West Midlands took friend Peter Rose and myself into pastures new recently when the transport delights of Birmingham, Wolverhampton and West Bromwich were explored.

As we have done before, we have combined all the images we gathered on the day.

The credits being joint D.Basford/P.M.Rose.

In 2016 ‘West Midlands Passenger Transport Executive’ which had controlled transport in the area since 1969 was dissolved following the establishment of the ‘West Midlands Combined Authority’.

In the fullness of time, their transport arm was established under the name of ‘Transport for West Midlands’.

This body introduced its own livery using 2 shades of red with a cream highlight.

The plan, as I understood it, was to re-paint all the buses into this new livery no matter who the operator might be.

Whilst there are many buses working in this livery, there are also many other buses working in other liveries.

Most buses are named using people’s forenames which reflect the ethnic diversity of the area.

The choice of names are suggestions put forward by employees of ‘national express West Midlands’ together with some from the general public.

I think that is a nice touch because people of all ages will be happy to ride on ‘their’ bus.

To mark the centenary of this much missed operator, both ‘Stagecoach Manchester’ and ‘Hulleys of Baslow’ have painted buses in appropriate NWRCC liveries.

It was a shame that the Hulleys vehicle could not have made the short journey from nearby Baslow to join it!

As a young bus enthusiast living in Sheffield, the appearance of NWRCC buses working into the Peak District in their distinctive red and cream livery was always a treat to be savoured.
