The company are part of the ‘JOHNSON BROS. TOURS’ (JBT) group of Hodthorpe, Worksop, Notts.

(More of which another day).

Peter has forwarded a number of images he has collected this week of buses in this elegant Warwickshire town.

As usual, they are reproduced here with his permission and my thanks.

‘Diamond Bus Ltd’. subsidiary ’Diamond Bus West Midlands’ has been on the acquisition trail of late having taken over both ‘Claribel Coaches’ in April 2022 and the bus operations of the well known ‘Johnsons’ of Henley in Arden.

Branded as ‘Excelbus’, the 18 buses involved joined ‘Diamond’ towards the end of May/ early June.

‘Johnsons’ are retaining their coach operations which includes holidays, excursions, private hire and Schools services.

It is expected that the buses in question will be quickly repainted, meanwhile they are operating in their original colours with ‘Diamond’ vinyls added.

‘Scene’ Taking a ‘Peak’ at Butterley. Well, Two Actually on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

Over the weekend of 9th. and 10th. of April 2022, the Midland Railway Butterley were running a pair of ‘Peaks’ in top and tail mode.

Both looked and sounded good and it was a pleasure to see them.

The British Rail built Sulzer engined 1Co-Co1 diesel electric locomotives that became known as ‘Peaks’ were eventually to fall into three sub groups which were recognised by their TOPS classification as classes 44, 45 and 46.

The first ten (numbered D1 to D10) were given names of British mountains (hence Peaks).

These were to become Class 44 of which D4 ‘Great Gable’ is featured in this blog.

The other ‘Peak’ featured is a Class 46 being numbered D182.

Under the TOPS scheme D4 became 44004 and D182 became 46045.

All three classes were structurally the same and had the same Sulzer engine only being different from each other because of the of the different internal equipment fitted.
