‘Scene’ at Leeds Railway Station on ‘Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

‘Northern Rail’, part of the ‘ARRIVA’ group are the most prominent operator in and out of Leeds with services radiating to all points of the compass.

‘TransPennine Express’, part of ‘First’ group operate across the North of England and into Scotland serving both Glasgow and Edinburgh.

The link South and to London is currently in the hands of ‘Virgin East Coast’.

Since this blog was first written, ‘Virgin East Coast’ has been stripped of the East Coast franchise which is now being run in a form of Nationalization by ‘London North Eastern Railway’.

The history of the British bus industry is littered with companies that like shooting stars shone for a while and then fell to Earth.

Fortunately ‘Plaxton’ is not one of them.

Now part of the ‘Alexander Dennis Ltd.’ group and turning out current standards like the E20D / Enviro 200MMC and the E40D / Enviro 400MMC  alongside its own branded coach production.

There is however a long history of ‘Plaxton’ production a little of which is shown here.

‘Scene’ in Burnley. Part 1, The Burnley Bus Company (BBC) on ‘Dennis Basfords’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

North Lancashire and North Yorkshire is very much ‘Transdev’ territory in bus terms.

The company uses local identities in Blackburn, Burnley, Harrogate and Keighley together with ‘Coastliner’ to engender in the populations of the towns and localities the feeling that these are ‘our’ buses.

From the loadings I saw in Burnley and I have before on earlier visits to Harrogate (see blog dated 11/06/17) and Keighley (see blog dated 27/06/14), it works!

Burnley Bus Station is typically modern with a drive in reverse out layout with all the facilities you would expect.

‘Coastliner’, the full name is ‘Yorkshire Coastliner’, part of  the ‘Transdev’ group that serves the Yorkshire coast from ‘LCBS’.

There are  three routes starting at ‘LCBS’ that all run via York and Malton before diverging.

The 840 goes to Whitby and has recently been voted as the ‘Most Scenic Bus Journey in Britain’.

The 843 to Scarborough and the 845 to Filey and Bridlington.

My wife and I did the journey to Scarborough a few years ago and it is a superb trip.

‘Scene’ in Matlock, Derbyshire on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

For many years, some of Matlock’s local services have been provided by ‘G&J Holmes’ of Clay Cross.

The decision by Mr. N. Holmes to take semi retirement has led to the withdrawal of the company from much of its mainly service work.

In Matlock this means that services M1 and M4 have passed to ‘Stagecoach Yorkshire’s Chesterfield operation.

The changeover taking effect from 27th. May 2018.

The two services are being worked by an Optare Solo registered XRC 487 which was new as YN06 UGY.

Hawkes recently purchased this particular coach to replace Neoplan Starliner DE63 DEH (see blog dated 24/10/2014) which was superb coach and a hard act to follow.

Having had the opportunity to travel on the new coach last week I can report that it is a worthy successor.

I was fortunate recently to go on a conducted tour of Plaxtons factory at Eastfield, Scarborough.

Now part of the Alexander Dennis Ltd. (ADL) group.

Production at Scarborough is of ADL E20D/ ADL Enviro 200MMC’s and ADL E40D / ADL Enviro 400MMC’s.

In addition Plaxton’s coach range, the Elite, Leopard, Panther and Cheetah all come from the same site.
