I normally pace myself to produce eight blogs a month. However I was in Derby when this selection turned up in the space of half an hour or so and I thought it sufficiently interesting and newsworthy to publish it now in two parts.
I should explain that Derby has two routes with 38 in the number.
Part 1 is all about the 38’s.
‘ARRIVA’s service 38 serves Stenson Fields from Derby and is branded ‘Sapphire 38’.
The X38 serves Burton on Trent from Derby. A joint route with ‘ARRIVA’ and ‘trentbarton’ that runs via a long stretch of the A38.
The current rolling stock on the ‘Sapphire 38’ are ‘Alexander Dennis Ltd’. (ADL) E40D’s with ‘ADL’ Enviro 400 bodies.
Today I saw an addition.

Next to turn up was an ‘ARRIVA’ VDL SB200/Wright wearing X38 branding.
This was unusual because the X38 does not normally operate from the bus station.
All was explained when it departed on service 38 to Stenson Fields.

When I left the bus I was travelling on at the Derby Royal Hospital, the bus behind was an (ADL) ‘E40D’ with an ‘ADL’ Enviro 400 body.
Although carrying branding for the ARRIVA 38 to Stenson Fields, it was as its indicator shows working a service on the X38 to Burton.
As I have said before, Derby never disappoints.
