I have attended a number of SHOWBUS events over the years but this was the first time I had attended one at the Hertfordshire County Showgound.

The 50th. show and if we are to believe what we read, the last.

It would be a great pity if the reputation the SHOWBUS name has built up over the years were to be lost but we shall have to wait and see.

‘Scene’ in Leicester, Other Operators on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

I had not been to Leicester for some years but I had read that the rebuilding of St. Margaret’s Bus Station had been completed so I thought another visit was due.

The new bus station has been rebuilt virtually following the original’s footprint.

The building is new and it would appear to be equipped with all the facilities  I would expect.

The only major change, as far as I could see, is that buses can now leave the bus station directly onto the A594 Burleys Way.

A significant saving of both time and fuel.

Friend Peter Rose joined me for the day and whilst we were attracted initially by the new St. Margaret’s, we spent most of our time at the nearby Haymarket Bus Station.

‘Scene’ in Chesterfield 1 on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

It is now the middle of February and the days are getting longer, warmer, drier and brighter (or so I kid myself).

Time to come out of hibernation and look at what the world has to offer.

What better place to start then than Chesterfield??

Chesterfield’s coach station on Beckingham Way has a small parking area for buses and coaches waiting to go somewhere else.

‘Scene’ in Bristol 2 on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

For what was our last transport themed outing of 2022, friend Peter Rose and I had a day in Bristol.

The day was dominated by a clear blue autumn sky and long shadows.

Not perfect conditions, but as always we do our best.

For the first time, we have combined all the images we have taken so the credits are joint D.Basford/P.M.Rose.

From small beginnings in Ballymena, Northern Ireland, he built a multi million pound company with worldwide connections.

This blog (2 of 2) is my small tribute to the man and to all that he achieved.

‘Scene’ in Edinburgh, A Single Deck Volvo BZL/MCV on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

Edinburgh based friend Stuart Montgomery, one of ‘Lothian Buses’ volunteer photographers, has recently forwarded these images, which I am pleased to share with you.

Followers of the blog may remember that I featured a prototype Volvo BZL/MCV bus in one of the blogs I posted from EUROBUS EXPO 2022 held at the NEC.

The BZL is a full size battery electric bus chassis engineered so that it can accept both single and double deck bodywork.

Currently, it is only available with Egyptian built MCV bodywork.

MCV have a reputation for building stylish, elegant and durable bodies and this one appears to be well up to standard.

One body styling feature I don’t think I have seen before is the way the rear turn indicators are interlaced with the brake lights.

I like it!

As usual, I am grateful for the opportunity to showcase Stuarts images which are reproduced here with his permission and my thanks.

‘Scene’ in Warrington 3 Single Deckers on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

A few days spent visiting my nephew who lives in the town allowed me to spend some time looking at the bus scene.

Unusual in that the local services are provided by the local council and not as in many places by one of the big groups.

Because of that, the current fleet livery includes the branding ‘Warringtons own buses’.

The bus station, which is delightfully called ‘Golden Square,’ is very close to the railway station which can be seen above and behind the buses in many of the images.

The oldest single deckers date from 2006 & 2007 and now approaching 15/16 years old, they must be due for replacement soon.

However, they do appear in a variety of liveries which adds to their interest for the the enthusiast.
