‘Scene’ at the age of 100.’Hulleys of Baslow’ 16 on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

Today is the 16th. and final part  of

‘Scene’ at the age of 100. ‘Hulleys of Baslow’.

I did not realise when I first thought of publishing an image of every bus I have in my photographic collection what a marathon it would prove to be.

Had I done so, I might well not have done it.

However, I did it and I am glad I did. It brought back many memories of journeys on Hulleys buses and of days out taking the photographs.

If you have stuck with me through all 16 parts then thank you for your time and patience.

As I indicated earlier in the series, there are buses out there that I have still to see and photograph.

I look forward to doing so and including them in future blogs..

Finally.

Congratulations to all at ’Hulleys of Baslow’ over the past 100 years for all of their efforts in owning, managing, driving and maintaining the fleet because without them there would have been nothing for me to see and photograph.

Thank you.

Dennis

April 2021 sees the one hundredth anniversary of the founding of what has become ‘Hulleys of Baslow’, the well known Derbyshire based independent bus operator.

Founded by Henry Hulley, the ownership of the company has changed hands more than once but the name of its founder has survived all the changes.

I have known the company for over 60 years and during that time the buses initially painted (in my time at least) in shades of red and red and grey have been a fixture in Rutland Square in Bakewell.

These days, the livery has changed to cream and dark blue.

A combination that ‘Hulleys’ inherited from ‘South Notts’ when buses were bought from that fleet and the livery adopted.

Although Hulleys ‘main line’ is probably its service number 170 from Bakewell to Chesterfield via Baslow.

The company operates widely across North Derbyshire, to Sheffield and in the past year to Manchester.
