I had not been to Leicester for some years but I had read that the rebuilding of St. Margaret’s Bus Station had been completed so I thought another visit was due.

 

The new bus station has been rebuilt virtually following the original’s footprint.

 

The building is new and it would appear to be equipped with all the facilities  I would expect.

 

The only major change, as far as I could see, is that buses can now leave the bus station directly onto the A594 Burleys Way.

 

A significant saving of both time and fuel.

 

Friend Peter Rose joined me for the day and whilst we were attracted initially by the new St. Margaret’s, we spent most of our time at the nearby Haymarket Bus Station.

Continuing my blog a day until the end of the current ‘lockdown’. 

 

I hope you are enjoying them.

 

Seefeld is where we stayed in Austria. At something approaching 4,000 feet above sea level it made for crisp frosty mornings even in early Autumn..

 

The town lies on the OBB’s (Austrian Federal Railways) railway line linking Innsbruck with Munich and surprisingly is mainly single line.

 

The buses I saw all seemed to be funded by the Tirol region.

 

The buses in Seefeld all seem to terminate at the railway station. 

 

A true ‘ Transport Interchange’ loved by all transport planners.

I know that I go on about buses having two or three doors but to stand at busy bus stops in most places abroad and see the speed at which they can load and unload is amazing.

 

Even something as small as this bus has two doors.

 

In the UK, 80 seat double deckers with one door take ages to do the same thing.

 

Multiple doors has to be the way forward. (Rant over).

 

This bus, daily operates a free service, linking the railway station with the village centre and a number of outlying villages.
