‘Scene’ On the Rails in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

Friend Peter Rose recently returned from holiday based in Hebden Bridge.

An attractive market town set in the valley of the river Calder which shares the steeply sided narrow valley with the Rochdale Canal, the A646 road and the railway line linking Manchester with Bradford and other parts of West Yorkshire.

Because of its location the town does have flooding problems that with the effects of global warming will probably get worse.

These images are reproduced here with his permission and my thanks.

Hebden Bridge railway station was originally opened in October 1840 by the Manchester and Leeds Railway Company.

The current buildings dating from 1893 and were refurbished in 1997.

The signage that was used by the ‘Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway’ at that time was adopted.

This scene could well have looked the same 120 years ago.

‘Scene’ on the rails in Todmorden on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

Friend Peter Rose supplied the images for this blog for which I thank him.

Todmorden is a market town in the Upper Calder valley in West Yorkshire.

The railway came to the town in 1841 when the ‘Manchester and Leeds Railway’ (M&LR) started services.

Evolving through various mergers to become part of the ‘London Midland & Scottish Railway’ in 1923 and ‘British Railways’ in 1948.

We come up to date with the modern station being part of the railway network being managed by ‘Northern Rail’.

‘Scene’ once more at Trowell Junction on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

Friend Peter Rose was out for his daily walk yesterday and was able to capture this small selection of locomotives.

The images together with the operational details reproduced here are with his permission for which I thank him.

Trowell Junction lies at the bottom end of the Erewash Valley line just to the South of Ilkeston station.

The main line continues South through Toton yard whilst the Nottingham line branches off to the East.

Working the 1334 Butterley Midland Railway Centre-Kings Norton OT Plant.

Allegedly 20007 is the oldest diesel loco (built in 1957) with a main line ticket.

20142 carries a ‘London Transport’ livery.
