‘Scene’ in Bolzano/Bozen, Italy on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

‘Scene’ in Bolzano/Bozen, Italy

on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

Many of us are now in a state of lockdown because of the Covid 19 pandemic.

I, like many more find it all very boring so I am trying to lift my (and hopefully your) boredom a little by posting a few extra blogs that are a bit different from my norm.

In 2019 by wife and I had a holiday in Austria which took in parts of Germany and Italy.

The blogs were produced mainly for my own amusement but I have decided to  ‘give them a go’ in the public domain to see how they do.

Dennis.

An interesting place which at one time was in Austria and since the end of the of First World War is now in Italy.

Many of the population are ethnic Austrian and as a consequence of that speak German as their first language.

The City’s name and services change from one to the other depending on which language you speak.

The vehicles which appear to be state funded are identified in both German and  Italian i.e. ’VERKEHRSVERBUND SUDTIROL / TRANSPORTO INTEGRATO ALTO ADIGE’ (VS / TIAI). Sometimes this varies becoming ‘Servizio Transporto Integrato’/ Sudtiroler Verkhersbund. (STI / VS).

Note the multiple doors. There are even two doors in Mercedes-Benz Sprinters.

‘Scene’ at Euro Bus Expo 2018/8 on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

One of a small number of blogs featuring buses that caught my eye appearing at the NEC at ‘Euro Bus Expo 2018’.

It is now a week since I went to the NEC for what turned out to be one of the best shows that I have attended.

I could have written another half dozen blogs but I think that with this one, the last, It’s time to move on.

Thanks to all of you have contacted me, picked favourites etc. I hope you have enjoyed this last week as much as I have.

A new concept to me is a 12 berth sleeper coach on a minibus chassis.

3 upper berths and three lower berths on each side with a microwave at the back for an early morning cuppa!

It’s a bit snug but very cosy.

‘Scene’ Coaching in Scotland 2 on ‘Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.co.uk’

A few days based in Fort William enabled me to get a reasonable cross section of images of coaches both local and from further afield.

For part 1 see blog published 07/05/2017.

‘Scene’ in Bakewell part 2

When I first knew Bakewell, which is over 60 years ago. It was a typical country market town. Its primary function was trading in livestock at its large market together with produce, farm equipment and everything else that goes to support a basically farming community.

None of that has changed. The markets are still very busy particularly on Mondays. What has changed is that Bakewell has re invented itself and is now very much on the tourist trail and holidays map.

Situated on the river Wye and lying to the South of Manchester and Buxton. To the North of Derby and Matlock and to the West of Sheffield. Bakewell is ideally placed and the level of its bus services reflects that.

Services to Sheffield have been in the hands of ‘TM Travel’ (TMT) and ‘Hulleys of Baslow’ (see part 1) for some time but is interesting to see that ‘First in South Yorkshire’ have re introduced their service 240 which ran for many years and If memory serves me correctly originated in the ‘Sheffield Joint Omnibus Commitee’ service 40.

Only at week ends and bank holidays to start with but no doubt it will be developed .

J854 TSC

A Leyland Olympian with Alexander RH bodywork. Originally with ‘Lothian Regional Transport’, coming to TMT in 2008.

P1120890

R977 KAR

A Volvo Olympian and bodied again by Alexander but this time by the Belfast factory for ‘Dublin ‘Bus for whom it worked as 98-D-20316. It came to TMT in 2009.

P1120865

R93 LHK

Another Alexander Belfast bodied Volvo Olympian that was built for ‘Dublin Bus’ and was registered as 97-D-368 arriving with TMT in 2009.

P1120848

YJ07 DVM

‘Scene’ today 12 May 2014 in Nottingham

It’s a couple of months since I visited Nottingham last so I thought I would start with what is new to me.

I appreciate that it may not be new to you but that inevitably is the way it is.....!

I start unusually with a tram, No. 209. I do not normally include trams but  this one at the Theatre Royal stop was sporting a livery that I had not ‘Scene’ before.

P1120533

It is advertising the ‘Dairy Council’ sponsored ‘milk Race’ (I don’t know who thinks this is good use of English but no matter) which is visiting the city on Sunday 25th of May this year.

P1120538

SN53 EUZ

A Transbus Trident with Alexander ALX 400 formerly with 'London United' now with ‘Skills Coaches’. I had seen its mate SN53 EUT previously but not this one.

P1120522

YN05 GXG

This Scania/Wright Solar was previously with ‘Reading Transport’ and is now with ‘AOT Coaches’. It is pictured working the No.8 Hucknall-Nottingham route.

P1120654

FJ56 MGO

A Mercedes-Benz Sprinter based minibus which I think is part of ‘Nottingham Community Transport’s Fleet’. I have seen many of these carrying ‘Locallink’ branding but I cannot recall the ‘infolink’ wording before. Then again it may just be me...!

P1120661

I appreciate that advertising on the side of buses helps the finances of many bus companies but I have always felt that the advert sometimes defaces what otherwise is an attractive livery.

That being so, I present this small selection where fortunately, there are no adverts to be seen.

YP63 WFD

A Scania N230UD with Alexander Dennis Enviro (ADL) 400 bodywork.

YN14 MVL

Another Scania N230UD with Alexander Dennis Enviro (ADL) 400 bodywork.

P1120576

YN06 TGY

A Scania N94UD with East Lancs. bodywork.

P1120635

YN05 WFF

Another of the same.

'Scene' in Exeter

The City of Exeter is one of my favourite cities. Small enough to be visitor friendly and big enough to have all the facilities one would expect.

Very much a ‘Stagecoach’ city with all that companies standard types in evidence

MX07 HMG

A Dennis Trident with ‘Alexander Dennis Ltd. (ADL)  Enviro 400 bodywork. Before coming South this bus worked for ‘Stagecoach in Manchester’.

P1090129

WA04 TXP

An Optare Solo.

P1090050

WA06 HNG

A Dennis Dart SLF with Plaxton’s Pointer 2 bodywork.

P1090037

WA11 CGG

A Dennis Dart/‘ADL’ Enviro 200.

P1090044

‘Stagecoach’ operates a number of Park and Ride services from points around the city. Unusually the buses on these services are not in fleet livery but are branded for a particular service.

The colour coded schematic map is shown on the back end of one of the MAN 18.240’s with ‘ADL’ Enviro 300 bodies used on the services.

P1090051

WA59 FWY

One of the MAN 18.240’s with ‘ADL’ Enviro 300‘ bodies used on the service from Sowton.

P1090108

WA59 FWR

A Dennis Trident with ‘ADL’s Enviro 400 body working in from the Honiton Road.

In 2012 this bus was one of many that helped out with the London Olympics.

P1090107

WA59 FXH

Another of the MAN 18.240’s with ‘ADL’ Enviro 300 bodies used on the service from Honiton Road.

P1090132

WA59 FXC

Another of the same linking the City with the Matford P&R facility.

P1090046

Despite ‘Stagecoach’s dominance, there are other operators.

YJ12 NBL

An Optare Solo SR belonging to ‘DARTLINE’. An Exeter based company, who operate another Park & Ride service this time from the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

P1090057

WJ55 FHD

An Optare Solo of ‘Carmel Coaches’ (CC). CC operate widely across Devon having depots in Exeter, Plymouth and Torbay.

P1090014

CE52 TZX

Another ‘DARTLINE’ vehicle this time a humble Mercedes- Benz Sprinter.

P1090015

WK56 PEN

An Optare Solo of the well known operator ‘western greyhound’. (wg)

Previously registered MX56 NLT it operated with ‘Fairlane’ on airport related work in the Glasgow area.

P1090013

Y524 NHK

A Dennis Trident 2 with Alexander ALX 400 bodywork.

Formerly with ‘Stagecoach in London’ as its No. 17450

P1090137

LX51 FNW

Another Dennis Trident with Alexander ALX 400 bodywork.

One more ex ‘Stagecoach’ bus formerly No. 17518.

‘wg’ have had major problems with depot fires the cause of which is not for me to speculate about. However it is presumably the reason for this bus to enter service in its former ‘London’ livery.

P1090122
