‘Scene’ in Buxton once more ‘High Peak Buses’ 1 on Dennis Basford’srailsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

‘Scene’ in Buxton once more

‘High Peak Buses’ 1

on Dennis Basford’srailsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

Friend Peter Rose’s travels recently took him to Buxton and he has forwarded these images which are reproduced here with his permission for which I thank him.

HPB have their roots in previous operator ‘Eric Bowers’ of Chapel-en-le-Frith, Derbyshire.

Since 2012, jointly owned by ‘Centrebus’ of Leicester and the ‘Wellglade’ group who also own ‘trentbarton’, ‘notts+derby’,’ TMTravel' and ‘Kinchbus’.

Green liveried liveried 'Transpeak' buses have normally been identified in the legal details as ‘Bowers Coaches’.

However, I notice that many other buses are now carrying ‘Eric W. Bowers Coaches’.

It maybe that a mixture of details is being carried.

Further observation is needed to clarify the situation.

‘Scene’ on a PSV Circle Organised Visit In Bolton Town Centre 3, Go-North West (GNW) on Dennis Basford’srailsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

The fourth blog of ten, posted over ten consecutive days.

More tomorrow.

The PSV Circle (of which I have been a member for some years) aims to hold an Annual General Meeting in a different location in the UK every year.

Usually held at a weekend, they also include visits to operators and other bus related venues for the attending members to visit and enjoy.

This year, the location being in the North West of England centred on the Holiday Inn Express, Preston.

Friend Peter Rose joined me for what turned out to be a sometimes wet, but very enjoyable weekend.

As we have done before, we have combined all the images we have gathered.

The credits being joint D.Basford/P.M.Rose.

An hour lunch break was taken in Bolton where, inevitably, interest centred on the bus station.

The arrival of a large group of mainly men, mainly wearing Hi-Viz vests, many armed with cameras and jostling to take pictures provoked a lot of good natured banter with the local population.

I was asked twice by passers-by if the King was coming!

‘Go-North West’ came into being when in 2019, the ‘Go-Ahead Group’ took over ‘First Greater Manchester’s Cheetham Hill depot which included 163 buses.

The variety of liveries on display is explainable.

In April 2023, ‘GNW’ took over operation of four routes previously operated by ‘Diamond North West’ under the franchising system operated by ‘Transport for Greater Manchester’.

It appears that the buses involved did not pass to ‘GNW’ leaving the company to find buses from a variety of  its own sources.

Eventually, it was repatriated, restored to its original registration and sold on.

Friend Peter Rose and I were off to Newark to record the closing days of ‘Marshalls of Sutton on Trent’ operating Service 90 from Newark into Nottingham.

See blog posted 16/04/2023.

Always being willing to support public transport, we went into Nottingham by train.

As we have done before on joint outings, we have combined all the images we have gathered.

The new Broadmarsh bus station in Nottingham replaced an older facility on much the same site which was no longer fit for purpose.

A process that took something approaching five years to achieve.

‘Scene’ in Loughborough, ‘Kinchbus’ on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

It is Good Friday today, the start of the Easter holiday.

In the past, I have posted a blog on every day of a holiday and I intend to do so with this one.

So, starting with today, Good Friday, look out for blogs on Easter Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

Just over 10 miles north of Leicester, Loughborough is an interesting town from a transport point of view being on the Midland Main Line and the Grand Union Canal.

In addition, there is a frequent and varied range of bus connections supplied on the day I was there by five different operators.

‘Kinchbus’, based in Loughborough, has a history dating back to 1987 when the company was founded by Gilbert Kinch.

These days, it is part of the ‘Wellglade’ group which Is also ‘home’ to ‘trentbarton’, ‘Notts & Derby’ and ‘TM Travel’.

All the four companies’ buses’ fleet numbers are numbered within the same series.

Effectively, the fleet numbers are part of a ‘Wellglade’ fleetlist.

‘Scene’ in Newcastle upon Tyne 2 on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

Friend Peter Rose recently spent some time in this great City to attend a concert.

These days, he takes his pictures on his iPhone but whatever he uses the results are excellent.

He has forwarded the following images which are reproduced with his permission and my thanks.

Looking at the times the images were taken, 20 minutes would seem to cover the lot.

Not a bad haul on a beautiful day.

To check the details of what is in the pictures, I have made use of ‘Go-North East’s official fleetlist.

It is a work of art with every bus listed in detail and then it is colour coded to identify the livery that every bus carries.

Brilliant!

Specially repainted to represent a vintage bus of the inter-war period even to the extent of painting on a radiator with the company’s name cast into the radiator top.

It was customary do this at that time. Manufacturers such as ‘Tilling Stevens’ did it.

In that case, It didn’t matter who owned the bus, you knew straight away who had built it.
