‘Scene’ at ’Transpire’s Bus and Coach Rally at Rowsley 2017 part 2 on ‘Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

A glorious day on what was the hottest weekend of the year so far.

The only down side to the conditions was that being located on a non hard surfaced site there was a lot of dust being thrown up.

Non the less, plenty to admire and enjoy.

Part 1 was published on 14/12/2017.

‘Scene’ in Derby 30/06/17 on ‘Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

This selection might be sub titled.

“Something old, something new, nothing borrowed, something blue”.

’17’ plate registrations have been a bit sparse in my part of the world so we will start there.

‘yourbus’ of Heanor have recently taken delivery of three ‘old’ model Alexander Dennis Ltd. E20D’s numbered 1407 (YX17 NJJ), 1408 (YX17 NJK) and 1409 (YX17 NJN).

Delivered in white and repainted before entering service, presumably they came from a dealer and I would think have Euro 5 engines.

Something blue then.

Arriva have started painting their fleet in a much brighter blue (see my blog dated March 15th 2017).

Today, I saw this variation on the theme and very attractive it is.

We conclude with this 22 year old which I think you will agree has been an ‘L’ of a bus to have finished up as a driver trainer.

Every time I see one of these Volvo B10B’s with Northern Counties bodies I think

“this could be the last time I see it”.

One day it will be, so enjoy it while it lasts!

‘Scene’ Yet again in Derby on ‘Dennis Basfords railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

My liking for Derby as a centre of bus interest is well known. The city continues to amaze me with the variety that turns up.

I was in the city mainly to capture images of all the remaining new ‘trentbarton’ (tb) ADL Enviro 200MMC’s (which I am now reliably advised are ADL E20D’s) that I had not previously recorded.

Then this selection turned up which, I am sure, will not disappoint !

Apart from ‘tb’s own E20D’s in service on ‘the nines’, they also had an ADL demonstrator in service on the same route.

‘Scene’ at Nottingham’s Victoria Bus Station

Todays bus station was built on the site upon which Nottingham’s Victoria Railway Station used to stand.

Nottingham Victoria Bus Station 1

The railway station was designed by Albert Lambert who coincidentally designed Nottingham’s other railway major railway station for the Midland Railway.

The land for the station was bought at enormous expense and required the demolition of over 1,000 houses and a couple of dozen pubs.

Some 600,000 cubic yards of spoil were removed creating a large hole in which the station was built. Access for trains was via tunnels cut in the Northern and Southern ends.

Owned by the Great Central and Great Northern Railways it was eventually opened in May 1900.

Some of the brickwork that supported the sides of the ‘hole’ is still readily visible today.

The multi-storey car park sits on what would have been ballast, trackwork and platforms etc.

Nottingham Victoria Bus Station 2

At the Northern end can be seen the boarded up entrance to Mansfield Road tunnel.

Nottingham Victoria Bus Station 3

The station was closed in September 1967 and the building of The Victoria Centre and flats was commenced.

The only part of the station that was not demolished was the Clock Tower (which still tells the correct time) and this was incorporated in the design of the centre.

Nottingham Victoria Bus Station 4

There are a total of 10 bays serving routes provided by ‘trentbarton’ (tb) and ’Stagecoach’.
