‘Scene’ in Buxton once more

‘High Peak Buses’ 1

on Dennis Basford’srailsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

Friend Peter Rose’s travels recently took him to Buxton and he has forwarded these images which are reproduced here with his permission for which I thank him.

HPB have their roots in previous operator ‘Eric Bowers’ of Chapel-en-le-Frith, Derbyshire.

Since 2012, jointly owned by ‘Centrebus’ of Leicester and the ‘Wellglade’ group who also own ‘trentbarton’, ‘notts+derby’,’ TMTravel' and ‘Kinchbus’.

Green liveried liveried 'Transpeak' buses have normally been identified in the legal details as ‘Bowers Coaches’.

However, I notice that many other buses are now carrying ‘Eric W. Bowers Coaches’.

It maybe that a mixture of details is being carried.

Further observation is needed to clarify the situation.

‘Scene’ in Loughborough 3 ‘Centrebus’ on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

Just over 10 miles north of Leicester, Loughborough is an interesting town from a transport point of view being on the Midland Main Line and the Grand Union Canal.

In addition, there is a frequent and varied range of bus connections supplied on the day I was there by five different operators.

‘Centrebus’, founded in 2001, are headquartered in Leicester but operate across widely across the midland counties.

A revised livery has recently been introduced. This introduces more blue and reduces the amount of white. The main colour still being orange.

Both liveries appear in this blog.

Images in this and all my other blogs can be viewed in a larger format on my Flickr page by double clicking on the image seen here.

I was in Buxton on other business and I always have my camera with me so why not?

EUROBUS EXPO 2022 LIVE is being held at the NEC on the 1st. 2nd. and 3rd. of November 2022.

ALL BEING WELL ! I will be attending on the 1st.

I will then publish a blog a day for the next seven days detailing those exhibits that caught my eye.

My view is that for that week, I will be ahead of most of the professional press.

So, if you want to see some of what’s new first, the place to be is;

Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk

The small market town of Belper dates back to pre-Norman times.

Sitting astride the A6, it lies six miles or so to the North of Derby with bus services radiating out to Derby, Ashbourne, Ripley, Wirksworth, Matlock and onward to Bakewell and Buxton.

The bus station is on the A6 and is an easy walk from the town centre.

Built in the 1950s by the ‘Trent Motor Traction Co’, it is a spacious airy place which serves the functions of both bus garage, where part of the fleet of ‘the sixes’ are kept overnight and bus station, where two bus ‘stands’ for loading/unloading passengers are provided.

Being a privately owned facility, the bus station is only used by ‘trentbarton’ and associate companies ‘notts+derby’ and ‘High Peak Buses’.

There was a time when the area over the door was adorned by the words ‘TRENT’ on the highest brickwork and ‘BUS STATION on the centre of the blank panels below.

However, for some years the blank panels have had it all to themselves.

Now, what was BELPER BUS STATION has become BELPER BUS DEPOT.

I wonder why it has been reduced to a depot when with the two stands inside, it is still a Bus Station?

Anyone care to make any suggestions??

‘Scene’ going Solo in Derby on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

The ‘Wellglade’ group has purchased over 100 Optare Solos over the years.

They continue to give good service although their numbers are in decline.

Looking at what is available in the current bus market, it is difficult to see where their replacements in what can be termed the ‘midibus’ range are going to come from.

We are however, still able to enjoy those that are still here.

Or ‘uddersfield as we Yorkshire folk are given to calling it.

My first real day out ‘bus hunting’ in 2022 was to the two West Yorkshire towns of Halifax and Huddersfield.

Only 9 or so miles apart in distance but separated in fact by an enormous hill along the top of which runs the M62 motorway.

The registration is a ‘cherished’ one, owned by ‘Arriva’.

When new, it was registered YJ61 OBW.

Interestingly, the cherished registration has been used twice before.

The first time was on a Park Royal bodied Leyland PD2 dating from 1957.

The second time was on a Northern Counties bodied Leyland Olympian dating from 1988.

There are some suggestions on the internet that the chassis might be a Dennis Dart but I have never seen this body style on a Dart chassis before.
