‘ Scene’ in Historic Mansfield on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

Friend Peter Rose has been contributing to this blog in a number of ways for some time.

A Mansfield lad by birth and upbringing, he is a believer in showing buses in their working environment.

He has submitted a selection of images and the attached notes which I present in their entirety.

My only addition are the bus details.

Peter also posts images on a Facebook group, ‘Buses and Coaches in the Landscape’ which is using the first image in this blog as the header to the website.

That, in my view, is well deserved recognition of his work.

Toothill Lane,

Midland Railway bridge built 1875 when the Nottingham to Mansfield line was extended to Worksop.

This was the spot where I first remember seeing a train and noting the number.

My memory tells me it was 48145 (a Stanier 8F) which I note was withdrawn 29/5/65 which just about fits.
