The major operator in Exeter is ‘Stagecoach South West’ which incorporates the operations of the former ‘Devon General’ who took over the former ‘Exeter Corporation Transport’ in 1970.
Interestingly enough, both former operators used different route identification systems which are still perpetuated to this day.
‘Devon General’ used a straightforward numerical system while
‘Exeter Corporation’ used the letters of the alphabet.
The buses seen in this ‘blog’ are operating a service to Exmouth and as such being part of what would have been a ‘Devon General’ route carries the service number 56.
