AIG 4114 ‘Glovers of Ashbourne’. Volvo B10M / Alexander (Belfast) ‘Q’ type /1
on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’
This particular vehicle has appeared on my blog before albeit in a slightly different livery.
New to ‘trentbarton’ registered M54 PRA in November 1994.
One of a batch of 5 coaches that were purchased for use on the ‘Transpeak’ service which for many years linked Derby with Manchester.
A link that was broken in 2019.
Correspondant Oliver Spencer at the time advised that they had spent eleven years on that service.
The story doing the rounds was that ‘Alexanders’ were very keen to get the work so concluded a deal that was ‘buy four, get one free’.
Whatever the truth, Trent got 5 magnificent vehicles which served the company well.
I travelled on them many times and they seemed indestructible.
The fact that one is still earning its keep today 25 years later means that this one probably is!
After service with ‘Trent’, it worked for ‘South Lancs Travel’ before coming back to Derbyshire in 2015.
