‘Scene’ Once more in Burton-On-Trent (BoT) on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

One of my favourite places, it never disappoints.

‘Midland Classic’ (MC) has been the dominant operator in ‘BoT’ for some years now and the company seems to go from strength to strength.

Much of the fleet has seen service elsewhere but ‘MC’s bright, smart livery blends the separate units into one entity.

‘Scene’, Down Memory Lane with ‘ARRIVA Midlands’ (AM) 1 on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

An occasional series which came about when I was looking through my collection of images for something else and this selection turned up.

In the early days due to the number of operators who formed the group, the fleet was a mixture of types amalgamated by the livery.

It was plain, simple and some said boring.

I liked it so here are some examples of how it looked.

FIRST, I MUST APOLOGISE FOR MY LACK OF POSTINGS AT A TIME OF YEAR WHERE I AM USUALLY VERY BUSY. MY HEALTH HAS BEEN AN ISSUE BUT HOPEFULLY THINGS WILL IMPROVE.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE.

The first three images owe their presence here to the local entertainment industry and might I think be referred to as ‘Bandbuses’.

‘Scene’ on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’ on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

From time to time, I showcase the work of friends where I think that what they have produced might be enjoyed by a wider audience than they might otherwise get.

This short blog features the work of Paul Toon and Peter Wilson who are sometimes on the lookout for something that might be of interest to me and others.

Of course they have granted me permission to use their images.

on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

New to ‘Webberbus’ in Somerset to whom it was delivered as part of a small batch of buses in the basic livery seen in this image.

‘Webberbus’ have a history dating back over 50 years but like many more independent operators ceased trading in their case in 2016.

The bus with others of its type and livery moved on to ‘Cumfybus’. An operator based on Merseyside from whom it passed with others in the batch to ‘CT4N’ (Community Transport for Nottingham).

It only joined ‘Littles’ in the last few months and was pictured in Belper, Derbyshire by Paul Toon.

New in 1946 to ‘Silver Service’, Darley Dale, Derbyshire in a silver and blue livery as No. 4.

It was also with ‘Burton’ of Alfreton, Derbyshire where it gained its current livery which is very nicely done.

‘Burton’ are still operating today (August 2019) using the same colour scheme.

Wether it is just coincidence but the former ‘Burton on Trent Corporation’s livery was maroon & cream………

See my blog posted 22/02/2018 for an example.

‘Scene’ at Exeter St. Davids Railway Station on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

I expect that with a title like that, you might be expecting one of my ‘rails’ blogs.

But no, it’s about buses because at the time I was there, buses were being substituted for trains on some services due to engineering work.

I like these events because literally anything can (and does) turn up.

Irizar PB’s with a destination box are unusual. This one and others like it were new operating an express service in 2014/5 from Cardiff and Swansea to Bristol Airport in a ‘Greyhound’ livery which failed to generate sufficient custom and was withdrawn.

‘First’s ‘Greyhound’ was an attempt to enter the specialist long distance coach market occupied by the likes of ‘megabus.com’ and ‘national express’.

To see an image of classmate YN55 PXL in its ‘Greyhound’ livery go to my blog dated 06/05/2015.

‘Scene’ in Dawlish, Devon. ‘hop2’ on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

On 08/03/2017, I published a blog illustrating ‘Stagecoach SouthWest’s ‘hop22’ liveried Scania/Alexander Dennis Ltd. Enviro 400.

A livery painted in the standard ‘Stagecoach’ colour layout but in shades of green.

At the time I hinted that other colours might follow so two years later here is the pink version.

As can be seen in the images, it had just stopped raining so a level of road ‘grime’ is present on the bus.

‘Scene’ in Exeter. ‘Stagecoach’ on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

In the days of ‘Exeter Corporation Transport’, (ECT) the use of letters to identify routes instead of numbers was adopted.

This tradition was continued by ‘Devon General’ (DG) in 1970 when they took over the ‘ECT’ operation and in turn in 1996 when ‘Stagecoach’ took over the by now privatised ‘DG’ post ‘NBC’ the letter route identification continued.
