‘Scene’ In Innsbruck, Austria on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

Many of us are now in a state of lockdown because of the Covid 19 pandemic.

I, like many more find it all very boring so I am trying to lift my (and hopefully your) boredom a little by posting a few extra blogs that are a bit different from my norm.

In 2019 my wife and I had a holiday in Austria which took in parts of Germany and Italy.

The blogs were produced mainly for my own amusement but I have decided to  ‘give them a go’ in the public domain to see how they do.

This current ‘lockdown’ finishes in early December so between now and then, I am going to post 2 or 3 images per day until then.

I have never done this before so, fingers crossed here goes.

Dennis.

An interesting place which at one time was in Austria and since the end of the of First World War is now in Italy.

Many of the population are ethnic Austrian and as a consequence of that speak German as their first language.

The City’s name and services change from one to the other depending on which language you speak.

The vehicles which appear to be state funded are identified in both German and  Italian i.e. ’VERKEHRSVERBUND SUDTIROL / TRANSPORTO INTEGRATO ALTO ADIGE’ (VS / TIAI). Sometimes this varies becoming ‘Servizio Transporto Integrato’/ Sudtiroler Verkhersbund. (STI / VS).

Note the multiple doors. There are even two doors in Mercedes-Benz Sprinters.

‘Scene’ at Clay Cross Junction in Derbyshire on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

The railway junction at Clay Cross lies six miles South of Chesterfield on what is known as the ‘Midland Main Line’.

At this point the line travelling South diverges with the Erewash Valley line turning East to serve Nottingham and the Amber/Derwent Valley line turning West to serve Derby.

Having left both Nottingham and Derby, the lines re-connect at Trent Junction and continue on Southwards to serve Leicester and on to London.

There was a station at the junction from as early as the 1840’s although any sign of it has long gone.

Many thanks are extended to friend Peter Rose for details of the train workings.

It is still used for commercial purposes.

At one time it housed a former’ Grimsby and Immingham Light Railway’ tramcar which currently resides at ‘Crich Tramway Village’

It can be seen by Googling  ‘List of tramcars at the National Tramway Museum’.
