‘Scene’, PARK & RIDE in York on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

The City of York like many other historic locations, whilst welcoming visitors does not want the traffic or the atmospheric pollution that their vehicles bring.

The answer is the ‘Park & Ride’ sites on the outskirts of the City.

A new livery for ‘Firstbus’???

The start of a new livery for ‘First York’ and presumably eventually for the rest of the group

‘First’ group buses are usually a shade of pale grey. This was almost white.

All of the contrast paintwork between the wheels and on the front has gone.

Only the upswept coloured rear end is there.

See the second image image for a comparison.

New to ‘First Manchester’. It also had a loan spell with ‘Diamond North West’ in ‘First’ livery.

Friend Peter Rose has been out and about with his camera again so with his permission to do so, I present this selection for your entertainment.

Thanks also to Peter for providing the service details.

In respect to Peter’s liking for transport in its environment I have not cropped the images.

There are 14 Class 180 sets built in 2000/2001 for ‘First Great Western’ (FGW) where they were known as ‘Adelantes’. They developed a reputation for unreliability which caused their withdrawal from FGW service in 2008.

Some sets were returned to FGW after a period in storage whilst others went to ‘Hull Trains’ and ‘Grand Central’.

The units with ‘Hull Trains’ having been replaced by Class 802 Paragons have moved to ‘East Midland Railway’ for what will be a short stay before being replaced themselves by Class 810’s in 2022.

‘Scene’ in Edinburgh. Open top buses on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

There was a time that the buses used on open top service were the oldest in the fleet which were serving out their time before the final trip to the scrap man.

Admittedly, there are ‘old timers’ around but more and more we are seeing new build open toppers.

Increasingly the type are being used year round and when you stand and watch the passenger loadings and see the money being taken you can understand why.

‘Scene’ in York on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

Regular readers will know of my ongoing interest in the City of York’s transport in all its variety.

The first then of a number of blogs detailing the ‘Scene’ in York in 2020.

Delivered in July to ‘East Yorkshire’ and announced to the world with a superb colour image on the cover of ‘Buses’ magazine for September 2020, was a batch of eight Alexander Dennis Ltd. (ADL) E40D / ‘ADL’ Enviro 400MMC’s.

These are destined for ‘East Yorkshire’s X46 service linking York with Hull.

Registered XY20 OEA to XY20 OEH and numbered 922 to 929.

I cannot equal the quality of the image in ‘Buses’ but I can at least show you what the rest of the bus looks like.

‘Scene’, new on ‘trentbarton’s rainbow one service on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

The ‘Wellglade’ group’s intake of Alexander Dennis Ltd. (ADL) E20D / ‘ADL’ Enviro 200MMC’s for its ‘trentbarton’ fleet continues apace.

The latest,16 in number have replaced six year old Optare Versas on the ‘rainbowone service which links Alfreton, Heanor and Ripley via Eastwood to Nottingham.

Painted in a blue livery, they hark back to the days when the ‘Midland General Omnibus Company’ (MGOC) another member of the ‘Wellglade’ group whose buses carried a similar blue and cream livery operated between the towns and Nottingham.

The buses registered YX20 OJA to YX20 OJH and YX20 OJJ to YX20 OJR are numbered from No. 158 to No. 173 inclusive.

It must be some years since I last paid Mansfield a visit so here I am again.

I have brought you images of the new ‘Stagecoach’ livery on the front, sides and back of a variety of buses.

This however is the first one to show the roof.

‘Scene’ in Burton-on-Trent (BoT) once more 2 on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

It is now about 18 months since I last went to ‘BoT’’ so it was time for a revisit.

For part 1 see blog posted 14/08/2020.

Well then, what has changed in that time?

The elderly Wright bodied VDL’s that were inherited from ‘ARRIVA’ seem to have gone.

Also, sadly the Optare Spectra seems to have gone as well.

The Optare Metrocity’s and the buses on the X12 to Lichfield have acquired revised liveries.

Two buses I knew when they were with ‘yourbus’ have joined the fleet and a new style of company fleet name has been adopted.

So, for the revised liveries on the Metrocity’s and the X12.

The location of the fleetname above the door/cab window over black makes it very strong and any accident damage to the lower panels where it would normally be is easier to replace.

‘Scene’ at Barnetby (Lincolnshire) on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

Barnetby lies on the line linking Doncaster to Grimsby and Cleethorpes with a line from Lincoln to the South adding a bit more variety.

The steelworks at Scunthorpe to the West and the docks at Immingham to the East provide a lot of freight traffic that passes through the station.

Thanks to friend Peter M. Rose for some of the detailed information on train loads.
