‘Scene’ in Riga (Latvia) on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

A quick blog to finish the month off.

My nephew Paul Basford’s images have appeared on my blog before.

He knows of my interest of all things ‘rails, roads and runways’ and from time to time forwards the odd image for my entertainment and education.

These two images I think might be of interest to a wider audience than just me so here they are.

New in 1984.

‘CKD Tatra’ being a major producer of trams used in Eastern Europe based in what is now the Czech Republic.

The buildings in the background incorporate the metal framework in their roof structure that originally were part of Zeppelin hangars that were built in the early 1920’s at Vainode Air Base.

They were moved (there are five) and incorporated into the roof of the central market when that was built in the late 1920’s.

They are listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Site list.
