It has been another busy month with 10 blogs appearing again. I hope there has been something for everyone.

 

So not only are there new buses for ‘trentbarton’ (tb) and ‘yourbus’ (yb) but they are of the same type. Alexander Dennis Ltd. (ADL) E20D / ‘ADL’ Enviro 200MMC’s.

 

‘tb’ have bought 15 for the 24/7 ‘indigo’ route which links Derby to Nottingham via Long Eaton, Beeston and the Queens Medical Centre.

 

They are numbered from 201 to 215 and are registered in numerical order, YY18 TOA/H/J/U/V, YY18 TPF/O/U/V/X/Z, YY18TRV/X/Z and YY18 TSO.

 

‘yb’ have bought 6 numbered 1801 to 1806 and are registered YY18 THK/N/U/V/X/Z.

Well for over a year this particular coach was my ‘one I could never catch’.

 

That was until it turned up in Mansfield Bus Station on a ‘Tesco’ shoppers shuttle service.

‘Alexanders’ started as bus operator in 1913 who grew to be a major force in Scotland becoming W. Alexander & Son’s Ltd. in 1924.

 

The present day ‘Alexander Dennis Ltd’. (ADL) has its roots in ‘Walter Alexander & Son’s who for many years built buses in Falkirk, Scotland.

 

A separate company ‘Walter Alexander & Co. (Coachbuilders) being formed in 1947.

 

Various mergers and changes of ownership have lead to the the worlwide company of ‘ADL’ that we know today.

 

Alexanders always produced distinctive buses but it was the ‘Y’ type introduced in the early 1960’s that took them into the ‘big time’ being sold nationally.

Derby railway station has been closed for major refurbishment work since July which will continue through to October.

 

Travellers through Derby have found that they have had to switch to buses and coaches for their onward journeys.

 

The operation seems to be well organised with a selection of vehicles from a wide range of operators being used.
