‘Scene’, ringing the changes in Nottingham on ‘Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

I was in Nottingham on other business when the following selection turned up and I just happened to have my camera handy !!.

Nottingham is a very colourful city in transport terms. ‘Nottingham City Transport’ (NCT) has a multitude of liveries and then there are the trams, ‘trentbarton’ etc.

‘NCT’s ‘Navy Line’ branding covers a number of routes that cross the river Trent to serve the South of the City.

There are suggestions that this style of livery might become the standard for future repaints in the fleet albeit with different colours.

‘Scene’, ringing the changes in Derby on ‘Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

From Sunday 26th. of March 2017, ’trentbarton’ have upgraded the rolling stock on the ‘ilkeston flyer’ service.

This has been done by cascading Volvo B7RLE’s with Wright Urban Eclipse bodies which previouly worked on the ‘indigo’ service between Derby and Nottingham.

With freshly trimmed seats and a new very smart paint scheme and livery, only the registrations give away the vehicles age.

To welcome the ‘new’ buses and to publicise the service a ‘triumphal arch’ of suitably coloured balloons were erected at the boarding gate in Derby Bus Station.

Perhaps of less significance but a change non the less is the transfer of ‘trentbarton’s Optare Solo’s which previously operated on ‘the nines’ Derby to Mansfield service to associate company ‘notts+derby’.

Still wearing the remnants of ‘the nines’ livery, they now have ‘notts+derby’ vinyls added.

‘Scene’ in the Southwest 2. Exeter P&R on ‘Dennis Basfords railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

An earlier blog in the ‘Scene’ in the SouthWest series was published on the 8th. of March 2017.

The City of Exeter’s Park & Ride services are provided by ‘Stagecoach South West’ previoulsly ‘Stagecoach Devon’.

There are various routes all identified by different colours.

The service from the Honiton Road P&R site was provided by Dennis Trident 2’s fitted with Alexander Dennis Ltd. Enviro 400’s in this very attractive yellow, red and maroon livery.

They have been replaced by new Alexander Dennis Ltd. E40D’s with Alexander Dennis Ltd. Enviro 400 MMC’ bodywork in this new livery which in comparison with the old one I think seems rather drab.

‘Scene’ in Manchester Picadilly Railway Station on ‘Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

A bright sunny day in Manchester no less.

I remember this station in steam days when it was smokey and gloomy and the sun did not shine in like it did on this visit.

I would like to say that I missed it, but I did’nt.

‘Scene’ wearing new colours in Derby on ‘Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk

‘Arriva Midland’s corporate livery is well established so the appearance of something different has to be remarked upon.

Carrying an overall light blue livery which would seem to be a close match to the blue used on the front of ‘Sapphire’ branded buses.

My understanding is that ‘Arriva’ group is to update its branding with a revised colour and a new logo.

I have not as yet seen the new logo.

Watch this space !!

When ‘yourbus’ of Heanor first appeared on the public transport scene their buses were painted in an uninspiring all over dark red.

At the ‘Bus & Coach’ show at the NEC in 2014, ‘yourbus’ introduced a new livery which was very much based on ‘Lothian Buses’ madder and white.

Buses acquired since then which has included Mercedes-Benz Citaro’s and Alexander Dennis Ltd. Enviro 200’s have carried the new livery.

Recently however, ‘old’ liveried buses are appearing in the ‘new’ livery and I must admit, they look very smart.

‘Scene,’ further competition in Derby on ‘Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

Regular readers will know of my frequent reports from the East Midlands in general and the City of Derby in particular.

On December the 1st 2016, I published a blog detailing how ‘yourbus’ (yb) of Heanor were competing with ‘Arriva Midlands’ (AM) on two routes in Derby.

Well, the competition continues and has recently intensified with additional competition now on services 1 and 1A which serve the suburb of Alvaston and the Boulton Lane Estate.

From my observations, ‘AM’ are using VDL SB200’s with Wright bodies in special route branding. whilst yb’ are using Mercedes-Benz Citaro’s without any additional branding.

Looking at what is happening in Derby, it puts me in mind of what has happened in nearby Burton on Trent where ‘AM’ have given up most of the town services to competitor ‘Midland Classic’.

Could it happen in Derby ???

‘Scene’ Tuk Tuk’s on Madeira on ‘Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk

This is my 400th. blog since I started blogging almost 4 years ago and I thought that something a bit more lighthearted than usual might be appropriate.

I think that the ‘Tuk Tuk’ originates in India and it is basically a motor scooter re worked to carry either additional passengers or freight.

Not cheap to hire but a lot of fun !

Not quite a Tuk Tuk but a near relative.

I saw the operator of this with two ‘substantial’ passengers on board and if you know how hilly Madeira is, you will appreciate just what hard work these things are.
