It was a brief note in ‘Buses’ magazine for February 2017 that led to this blog being written to mark the final departure of a hard working, long lived veteran type.
Under the ‘Notts & Derby’ entry it reads,
“The last ECW-bodied Leyland Olympian here, 20 (C720 NNN) new to Trent, has been sold for preservation and is to be based at Ruddington”.
There were 24 of these fine buses delivered to ‘Trent’.
No’s.700 to 705 were registered XAU 700Y to XAU 705Y.
No. 706 was registered XCH 706Y.
No’s.707 to 711 were registered A707 DAU to A711 DAU.
No’s.712 to 715 were registered B712 HVO to B715 HVO.
No’s.716 to 719 were registered C716 LTO to C719 LTO and
No’s.720 to 723 were registered C720 NNN to C723 NNN.
Down the years as the buses moved around within the group, some fleet numbers got changed.
The images in my blogs are usually taken by myself. Occasionally, I have used images supplied by friends and relatives. These are always ackowledged as such in the blog.
Most of the images in this blog are mine, however, there a number, that were acquired when I bought them as prints at bus rallies etc, so I do not know who holds the copyright and they can only be described as ‘Dennis Basford collection’.
Seen in traditional ‘Trent’ livery which in my view, has never been bettered !

In ‘Trent’ days, six buses appeared in promotional liveries. This bus, promoting ‘The Derby Evening Telegraph’ is pictured at Sandtoft.

One bus was painted in the blue livery of ‘Midland General Omnibus Company’ (MGOC) which had become part of the ‘Trent’ fleet at the time of the formation of the ‘National Bus Company.
The ‘MGOC’ had been one of ‘Trent’s major competitors for many years and being ‘taken over’ by a rival did not sit well with many of the former ‘MGOC’ staff at the time hence the wording seen over the entrance.

Eventually buses from the ‘Trent’ fleet were cascaded elsewhere.

My most recent image (and presumably the last) was taken at ‘Transpire’s ‘The Chesterfield Bus Society’s bus rally held at the Peak Park Railway’s premises at Rowsley, Derbyshire in 2016.

The ‘Trent’ livery eventually exchanged the cream paint for silver (a backward step in my view).

There have been a number of variations of the ‘unibus’ livery over the years.
