‘Scene’ at Tenerife South Airport on ‘Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

We were on the way home from a week in the Canaries and Madeira and as usual had a while for our aircraft to turn up so taking a few photo’s was as good a way of passing the time as any.

I must confess imediately that all the images were taken from inside the terminal where I had the ‘benefit’ of tinted glass to give everything a ‘glow’.

The closeness of the sea to the runway can clearly be seen.

‘Scene' Zooming out of Derby on ‘Dennis Basfords railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

‘trentbarton’ (tb) introduced its then new ‘Zoom’ route on Sunday the 8th of September 2013.

Running along the A52 non stop as far as Borrowash, it then went on to serve Draycott, Breaston and Long Eaton.

I said at the time in a blog published 09/09/2013 that it was,

“probably the fastest service (the residents) had ever had.”

Initially operated with route branded Optare Solo’s, these were exchanged  for bigger Scania L94UB’s with Wright bodies presumably because of the need for bigger buses.

I have seen ‘Zoom’ buses in and out of Derby bus station with what I thought were decent loads on many occasions so it came as a surprise to see in Derbyshire County Council’s ‘Changes to bus services’ website that from Sunday 19th. of February 2017 the service is to be withdrawn.

‘notts+derby’ are replacing much of the route with its services 12 and 12A.

So, a look then at the hardware.

‘Scene’ in Las Palmas, Grand Canary on ‘Dennis Basford’srailsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk

Whilst cruising the Canaries on 'Thomson Majesty' I had an oportunity to look at the local bus scene.

The climate is ideal for open top bus operation.

The local buses that operate in ‘Las Palmasare run by the local council and are painted yellow and branded ‘Guaguas Municipales’.

From my observation it would seem that 2 door operation (even on minibuses) is the norm with 3 door operation being widespread.

‘Scene’ in Sheffield on the X1 on ‘Dennis Basfords railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

On March 22nd. 2016 I posted a blog on which I featured the then new up market Daimler OM 934 / Wright Streetdeck  on ‘First South Yorkshire’s (FSY) service X78 from Sheffield to Rotherham and Doncaster.

Visiting recently, I saw some of the same buses now branded for ‘FSY’s service X1 from Sheffield to Rotherham and Maltby as the ‘STEELLINK’.

The X1 STEELLINK service runs on a new Tinsley link road which is part of the new 29 Million pound ‘Bus Rapid Transport North’ scheme which  is to provide a more direct route for buses to Rotherham and Maltby and reduce congestion.

The STEELLINK branding has been added to the previous livery used on the X78.

The X78 incidentally has been downgraded and reverted to standard buses wearing normal ‘FSY’ fleet livery.

Not all of Doncaster’s population appreciates the move !

Trams play an important part at Shudehill linking as the do from the City Centre on to Victoria railway station and to Bury.

The first generation of modern trams were Italian built Ansaldo Firema T-68/T-69‘s. Dating from the early 1990’s They have now all been withdrawn.

‘Metrolink’ the operator have replaced them with new Bombardier ‘Flexity Swift 5000’ ‘Light Rail Vehicles’ (trams to you and me).

84 units have been delivered and another 32 were authorised to be delivered up to 2016. Costing £2,000,000 each they are fast, powerful and comfortable.

The suffix ‘B’ in the number indicates the particular ‘end’ on the vehicle.
