‘Scene’ at Nottingham railway station on ‘Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

It is now almost a couple of years since Nottingham’s Railway Station was re-vamped and things seem to have settled down nicely.

Very much the preserve of ‘East Midland Trains’ with a regular service from ‘Arriva Cross Country’ to the West Midlands and the hourly service provided by ‘Northern Rail’ to Sheffield and Leeds.

‘Scene’ new to me in Derby today 24/11/16 on ‘Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk

Derby again folks and I am never disappointed. Much to see and record of which the pick was this new Alexander Dennis Enviro 200 of ‘yourbus’ of Heanor. Interesting to note the ‘old’ body styling.

‘Scene’ in Nottingham today 23/11/2016 on ‘Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk

The City of Nottingham was one of the first to adopt electric traction in the modern era with battery powered vehicles in the shape of Optare Solo Electric’s operated by ‘trentbarton’ in 2012 on the ‘centrelink’ service between the Victora and Broadmarsh shopping centres via the city centre.

They have recently been replaced by ‘Nottingham Community Transport’ using BYD K9UR’s.

I believe that the batch supplied are registered LJ16 NMK, M, O, U, V, X, Y and Z together with  LJ16 NNA, B , C, E and F totalling 13 vehicles.

‘Scene’ in Chesterfield. Other operators on Dennis Basford’s ‘railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

I recently published a blog built around ‘Stagecoach in Chesterfield’. (see blog published on 31st. October 2016).

This is a follow up to that detailing other operators who appear in the town.

This bus (and others) spent its earlier life running from Nottingham to Ilkeston (pronounced ILSON by the locals) and Cotmanhay.

‘Scene’ on a Day Out with Dennis to Buxton via Chesterfield on ‘Dennis Basfords railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

This set of images is to illustrate an article written for a magazine called ‘All Things Local’.

This community magazine is produced and distributed from a base in Kilburn, Derbyshire and covers large areas of the towns of Ripley and Belper.

If you are travelling from Belper your first bus of the day is one of ‘trentbarton’s ‘the sixes’.

A Swedish built chassis from Scania with a body built by ‘Wright’s of Ballymena in Northern Ireland.

From Chesterfield to Buxton, ‘G & J Holmes’ of Clay Cross provide an Alexander Dennis Ltd. Enviro 200.

Alexanders have built this type of bus both in Scotland at Falkirk and at Scarborough in Yorkshire.

For passengers returning to Belper and Matlock ‘High Peak Buses’ use a variety of buses marketed under the ‘transpeak’ name which covers a route stretching from Manchester to Derby.

One type of bus used is the Scania OmniCity which although being built by a Swedish company was built at the Scania factory in Poland.

‘Scene’ at the NEC last week on ‘Dennis Basford’s roadsrailsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

I have already published six previous ‘blogs’ from this years Bus & Coach’ show at the NEC so I will close this series with one more ‘blog’ of two further items that I found interesting.

Volvo B5LHC

At first, I thought this was just another Wright Routemaster but a closer inspection showed it to be something different. No rear exit for a start.

What is significantly different however is the electric hybrid drive employed.

It can operate in purely battery electric mode with zero emissions in town and city centres for up to 4.5 miles before switching to its Euro 6 rated diesel engine for out of town and city centre operations where emissions levels are less critical.

Battery charging can take place at bus stops and at the temini of the route together with regenerative charging from the diesel engine when that is in use.

Clever eh!

‘Scene’ at the NEC last week ‘ADL Enviro400’ developements on ‘Dennis Basford’s roadsrailsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

The Alexander Dennis Ltd. (ADL) Enviro400 has been around for 10 years or thereabouts but it still has potential for developement.

The body has been ‘home’ to a variety of  alternative drive solutions. A couple of years ago saw the  introduction of the Major Model Change (MMC).

This saw a range of styling differences and build modifications that while it was still an Enviro400 showed that it it had moved forward

The latest Enviro400City seeks to build on what has gone before without losing the connection.

I particulary like the assymetric front panel carried over from the Enviro200 and the glazed staircase which I think originates with the New Routemaster.

Also on display was another alternative drive in that it is ‘gas’ powered version.

The ‘gas’ coming from food waste and sewage.

Although the emissions are reduced, it will be interesting to see if and how it smells !!

BYD (Beyond Your Dreams) have become a widely recognised name in the British bus scene in a very short time.

Not only with the single decker built with Alexander Dennis (see blog published 04/11/16) but with their own double decker.
