‘Scene’ at the Midland Railway Trust (MRT) at Butterley on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk

The ‘MRT’s current lack of steam power has been well documented in the railway press.

This has led to the hiring in of suitable locomotives through the summer to enable advertised steam services to be run.

The previous hiring of the ‘Metropolitan Railway’s No 1 was covered in my blog dated 05/04/16.

This time, it is another red locomotive. ‘London Transport’ No. L150

Built by the ‘Great Western Railway’ in1927 as its 5521. One of many 2-6-2T locomotives that were collectively known as ‘Prairies’ because of their wheel arrangement.

It was withdrawn in 1962 and sent to Dai Woodhams scrapyard at Barry, South Wales.

Saved for preservation in 1975, 5521 is widely travelled including a long spell in Poland where it spent some years at The Wolsztyn Steam centre.

It has also worked in Hungary and Slovenia.

Painted in May 2013 in London Transport’s red livery and numbered L.150 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Metropolitan Railway.
