‘Scene’ at Coach & Bus Live 2013 Part 1

Held in Halls 19 and 20 at the NEC on Wednesday and Thursday the 2nd. and 3rd. of October 2013.

The show had so much to offer and there was so much to see that to try and put it all in to one article would be a mammoth undertaking and would probably overwhelm the reader.

What I propose to do then is to look at a number of areas that I found of interest and present them starting today. Over the next few days I will cover as much as I can.

The unexpected highlight of the show to me was the Bedford OB with Duple bodywork that is owned by ‘Kenzies of Shepreth’.

I had the chance to talk to Mr. Cyril Kenzie (who founded the company in 1948) at the show and though he is now getting on in years, he is rightly proud of his company and this vehicle.

The 29 seat Duple body seats 29 and comes complete with a sliding roof and quarter lights in the coving panels. The interior of the coach is original.

Registered JBY 804 it was new to ‘Barbers of Mitcham’ in March 1951 and cost just under £1700.

It was sold to ‘Kenzies’ in 1963 for £450 and continues in use to this day on a range of duties.

As Mr. Kenzie said to me “It is definitely not for sale”.

I have been involved with the Community Transport scene for many years and I am always drawn to vehicles designed to cater for that sector. There were a number of vehicles on show in that category but the vehicle that attracted me was the Wright Streetlite that has been modified by Nu Trak to carry disabled passengers and up to five wheelchairs.

It comes equipped with 37 seats but as can be seen most of them are removable to make way for the wheelchairs.
