‘Scene’ today (30/09/2016) in Derby on ‘Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk

Everybody likes a month end bonus and today, this was mine.

Last October when ‘trentbarton’ replaced the assortment of coaches that were then running the ‘red arrow’ services with brand new Volvo/Plaxton 6 wheelers (see blog dated 26th. October 2015).

The ‘assortment of coaches’ were dispersed. One was retained as a spare on the ‘red arrow’.

Some including a number used on the Nottingham to East Midlands Airport ‘skylink express’ (see blog dated 25th. April 2016) service were passed onto other ‘Wellglade’ fleet members and the 2004 vintage Scania/Irizar’s were sold off.

Today, as I was walking toward the bus station this turned up.

‘Scene’ at ‘Showbus 2016’ part 2. The New Double Deckers on ‘Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

I have been attending ‘Showbus’ for more years than I care to remember.

Having previously ‘trekked’ to Woburn and Duxford in the past, it was a pleasant change for it to be held just down the road from where I live at Donington Park.

A mixed day weatherwise it was nevertheless an enjoyable day with something for everyone.

My first ‘blog’ re Showbus this year (published 25/09/2016) dealt with the Bedford VAL.

Lest readers think I am stuck in the past, this blog deals exclusively with the latest in double deck hardware.

‘Scene’ at Showbus 2016 part 1. The Bedford VAL on ‘Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

I have been attending ‘Showbus’ for more years than I care to remember.

Having previously ‘trekked’ to Woburn and Duxford in the past, it was a pleasant change for it to be held just down the road from where I live, at Donington Park.

A mixed day weatherwise it was nevertheless an enjoyable day with something for everyone.

I shall no doubt return to the ‘Showbus’ exhibits in future blogs but the first one from the venue features an ‘old timer’ the Bedford VAL.

Dating from the nineteen sixties, its a pleasure to see them still around.

This set of images is to illustrate an article written for a magazine called ‘All Things Local’.

This community magazine is produced and distributed from a base in Kilburn, Derbyshire and covers large areas of the towns of Ripley and Belper.

If you are travelling from Belper your first and last bus of the day is one of ‘trentbarton’s ‘the sixes’.

The bodywork was built by Plaxton at Scarborough who eventually became part of ‘ADL’.

‘Scene’ at ‘Transpire’s Peak Park Preserved Bus Gathering 2016 part 2 on ‘Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

I do not attend many bus rallies because I find more than enough in the current scene to keep me busy.

However, once a year ‘Transpire’ the Chesterfield based enthusiasts group holds its own event which for the last few years has been held at the ‘Peak Rail’ site at Rowsley in Derbyshire.

I have been a member for many years and have rarely missed so as usual, this year I went along and of course the camera went with me.

Part 2 ‘Trent Connection’ (For part 1 see blog posted 23 June 2016)

‘trentbarton’, (part of the ‘Wellglade’ group) as it is these days is the modern day successor to a variety of companies that have become what is ‘trentbarton which has a history dating back over 100 years.

New to ‘Alder Valley’ in 1972. it replaced a previous Leyland National in the fleet (XRB 419L) which also carried 419 as its fleet number.

If memory serves me correctly, the earlier bus fell out of favour because it had 2 doors and the norm had become single doors.

The fleet of The ‘Midland General Omnibus Company’ (MGOC) came into the ‘Trent’ fleet in 1972 following the formation of the ‘National Bus Company’ (NBC) in 1969.

In the early days of the ‘NBC’, the ‘MGOC’ were allowed to keep its blue livery. A different ‘NBC’ shade of blue was eventually introduced.

Eventually this was phased out and ‘NBC’s poppy red became the norm. A Shame really.

At the time of the formation of the ‘NBC’, the ‘North Western Road Car Company’ (NWRCC) was broken up and the Matlock and Buxton depots became part of the Trent operation.

This particular bus is shown as being representative of the ‘NWRCC’ at the time although it never served in the ‘Trent’ fleet.

On the 2nd. of July 1989 ‘Trent’ took over ‘Barton Buses’.

‘Barton Transport’ was a independent private company with a history as long as ‘Trent’s.

At one time famous for the variety of vehicles in the fleet it had become highly standardised on Leyland Leopard’s with a smattering of DAF and Bedford chassis. Largely bodied by Plaxton.

‘Scene’ in Burton on Trent (BoT) 05/09/16 on ‘Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk

Regular readers of my blog will know that ‘BoT’ is one of my regular haunts and the ongoing rumours about ‘midland classic’ (mc) taking over the local routes of ‘Arriva’ would inevitably find me back there.

The rumours were true, with ‘mc’ taking control over the recent August Bank Holiday weekend.

Two routes stay with ‘Arriva’.

One is the X38 service to Derby which is run jointly with ‘trentbarton’ the operation of which has transferred to Derby.

The 9A to Leicester which I believe is a Leicester operated service continues as before.

‘BoT’ presents the odd mixture of ‘Arriva’ liveried buses wearing ‘mc stickers operating very much as they used to.

The ‘Arriva’ depot on Wetmore Road is now home to a mixture of ‘mc' and former ‘Arriva’ buses including ‘MC’s Routemaster.

I would like to start with the most recent additions to the ‘mc’ fleet (prior to the arrival of the ‘Arriva’ buses) and these are six Optare MetroCity’s which I believe have been very well received.
